Americans celebrate the day our fledgling country declared its independence in 1776 with fireworks, family gatherings, plenty of food and good fun. At the Rose Bowl in Pasadena they have been doing it consistently since 1926. This year Drum Corps International (DCI) Marching Music’s Major Leagues TM, presents five of the country’s best Drum and Bugle Corps, and a world-class fireworks show that will thrill and delight families from throughout Southern California.

Performing their precision music and field shows will be The Academy from Tempe, AZ, Blue Devils from Concord, CA, Pacific Crest from Diamond Bar, CA, Phantom Regiment from Rockford, IL, and Santa Clara Vanguard from Santa Clara, CA. Drum Corps International has developed into a powerful, non-profit, global youth activity with far reaching artistic, educational and organizational influence. Their message of “excellence in performance and in life” has been delivered to more than 7.2 million young people from more than 15 countries, ages 13-22 involved in performing arts in the United States. Each summer some 400,000 people attend live Drum Corps events.

Fireworks show producers, Pyro Spectaculars by Souza, has become known as the “Fireworks Ambassadors to the World” by developing revolutionary choreography methods and precisely firing fireworks to music at the biggest events around the globe.

As the community comes together to celebrate the American Spirit of Freedom the Rose Bowl will honor all the men and women who have served and are actively serving in the Armed Forces, at home and around the world. Local members of the active military and their families will be admitted free by showing their current military identification at the Rose Bowl box office the day of the event.

The Rose Bowl committee selected Soldiers’ Angels as the “charity of choice.”  Ad space in the program handed out to 100,000+ citizens who come to view the big fireworks show will generously showcase this non-profit organization.

Soldiers’ Angels "Tribute to Soldiers" museum will be at the celebration allowing Americans to read letters and view mementos that have been sent to the organization from the troops they provide services to, along with showcasing the history and activities of Soldiers’ Angels.

“Tribute to Soldiers” is packed with historical treasures, the museum is a testament to the life of soldiers in wartime, and the efforts of the homefront to meet their needs.  Detailed displays documenting the Soldiers’ Angels story include letters from the front, national and unit-based awards and commendations, photographs, media coverage of SA activities, artifacts from various SA projects, and sentimental thank you gifts from "adopted" soldiers.  There is also an alcove with a tribute to SA adoptees who have fallen in the line of duty, large photographs of military life at home and in the field, and pictures and thank you notes from military families

The Rose Bowl is accessible, safe and affordable with general admission tickets priced at $13 each and children 7 and younger admitted free. Parking is $15 per car. The Americafest Family Fun Zone with plenty of barbeque and other culinary treats, beverages, crafts, product exhibits, inflatable rides for the kids and more opens mid afternoon and continues throughout the day and evening.
