Demonstrators in London rally at Pakistani and US embassies in solidarity with Aafia Siddiqui on Aafia Siddiqui Day, 28 March 2010

Editors note:  This is an issue that every American veteran and every soldier fighting real terrorism around the world must be aware of.  Few things have done more to destroy the good name of the United States more than this travesty of justice.  Using gangs of thugs to fill rendition numbers with innocent civilians to cover failures of the Bush administration is no excuse for continuing abuses of this kind.  g. duff

LONDON – 28 March 2010 marks the seventh anniversary of the kidnapping and detention of Pakistani national, Dr Aafia Siddiqui and her three children.

As part of a wave of demonstrations and events taking place all over the globe, demonstrators in London will be rallying at the Pakistani and US embassies in solidarity with Aafia Siddiqui and her family and calling for her release and repatriation to Pakistan.

Siddiqui’s lawyers maintain that she was abducted by the Pakistani authorities along with her three children and rendered to Afghanistan where she was detained by American forces for over five years. Siddiqui claims she was abused, raped and tortured throughout her detention. Siddiqui was recently convicted of allegedly firing on US soldiers while in custody in what appears to have been a grave miscarriage of justice. Two of her children remain unaccounted for.

Fahad Ansari, of the Justice for Aafia Coalition (JFAC) said:

“The case of Aafia Siddiqui epitomizes the brutality and oppressive nature of the ‘War on Terror’. The sheer fact that Aafia’s children, one of whom is an American citizen, remain missing with the US government refusing to even comment on the issue, speaks volumes.”
