Historian Examines Why Americans Get Upset Over “Historical Revisionism”

16
Linenthal, a professor at Indiana University and editor of the Journal of American History, says when histories accepted as reflecting accurately on events are revised, “The urge is to lash out at those doing it (the revision) as somehow being subversive.” When historians ask new questions about evidence or come across new evidence, or look at evidence in a different way, they are looked upon as “revisionists,” he writes, adding: “To my mind, any historian who is not intellectually senile is a revisionist.”

Spill, Baby, Spill

13
The oil spill that began when one of oil giant "BP's" offshore oil rigs exploded and sank in the Gulf of Mexico last week was initially reported as leaking at the rate of 1000 barrels per day. Last night the Coast Guard upped the estimated leak rate to 5000 barrels per day. I assume that they are talking about the typical 42 gallon "barrel" the standard measurement for the toxic fluid now gushing from a pipe drilled in a hole in the sea floor. If so, that's 210,000 gallons of toxic, flammable, carcinogenic, fish, fowl and coral killing sludge every day.

Dual Loyalty Revisited

The U.S.-Israeli relationship has proven itself a consistent threat to our national security. That peril has only worsened with time. Did Your Lost Mail Fall Into One of the Postal Service’s ‘Black Holes’?

10
Currently, the postal service's primary function is to save money at the expense of customer service. So actually having to deliver the mail is looked upon by upper management as an inconvenient, but necessary nuisance in order to obtain their bonuses. In fact, due to the bonuses and the upward mobility awarded managers for saving money, in effect, the entire system is geared to enhance the enrichment of high level post office executives. As a result, the postal service's primary mission is no longer efficiently delivering the mail, but to serve as a welfare system for high paid government bureaucrats.

Third Political Party Urgently Needed to Stop U.S. “National-Security State”

8
As both the Republican and Democratic political parties are locked into a national security state that is perpetually at war, Americans urgently need to create a third political party, a law school dean writes. “It will take a third party to allow us to shed the national-security state…which the two major parties are locked into, which they maintain regardless of the votes of the populace, and which will destroy us as surely as it has destroyed previous empires,” writes Lawrence Velvel in his book “An Enemy of the People”(Doukathsan).
