Palestine Granted Full UNESCO Membership

Controversial move endorsed in UN cultural agency vote despite US threat of withholding £50m in funds

The UN Cultural and Educational Agency UNESCO has granted Palestine full membership in a move that Israel and the United States say could harm Middle East peace efforts.

Delegates approved the membership by 107 votes to 14.

France, which had voiced serious doubts about the motion, in the end approved it along with almost all Arab, African, Latin American and Asian nations, including China and India.

Israel, the United States, Australia, Canada and Germany voted against, while Japan and Britain abstained.

Israel’s ambassador Nimrod Barkan admitted before the vote that he was resigned to the Palestinians gaining entry. Barkan slammed countries that “have adopted a science fiction version of reality by admitting a non-existent state to the science organisation…. UNESCO should deal in science not science fiction” he said.

He admitted the vote, while symbolic, could have a knock-on effect:

“There is potential for a cascading effect of this resolution on many other UN specialized agencies and in New York.”

Palestine Vote: Statement by UNESCO Director-General

English Statement starts at 2:39

UNESCO members vote one-by-one on whether to allow Palestinians full membership to the cultural agency.

Huge cheers went up in UNESCO after delegates voted to approve the membership.

One shouted “Long Live Palestine!” in French.

Is it not time that the world financed UNESCO itself and stopped taking hand out from the US.
That 80 million dollars could be put into supporting the vets whose lives have been shattered by these phoney so called wars on terrorism.
Remember he who pays the piper calls the tune.

Enough of this zionist thuggery by three zionist governments Canada, Israel and USA and their supporters. It is now quite clear that nazis were less evil compared to their offspring the zionists.

    • DaveE  November 1, 2011 at 9:02 am

I think you got it backwards. The zionists are older and have lasted 120 years, the Nazis came along much later and were a flash in the pan that didn’t last 20 years.

The Nazis were amateurs, the zionists are pros. On that we agree…..

    • Nelson_2008  November 1, 2011 at 4:21 pm

Don’t forget though, the Nazis were basically just a reaction to what the Jewish collective did to Germany.

these however, have cooked their own goose ………the shame is upon them ….and soon their peoples will see………..they are on a sinking ship …..

“Some political commentators have already gone so far as to blame the Palestinians’ pursuit of their cultural rights for forcing the US to leave UNESCO, thereby jeopardizing valuable programs in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

“Others note the self-sabotaging nature of the Congressional legislation…the U.S. will likely be forced to isolate itself from participating in several United Nations agencies. This will dramatically affect the ability of the U.S. to pursue policy goals on the world stage, all due to the U.S. Congress’ zealotry in seeking to prevent the Palestinians from nonviolently pursuing recognition of their rights as a people in the international arena.”-Fact sheet on the PLO’s bid for UNESCO membership by the Institute for Middle East Understanding @

US foreign policy is often like holstering a loaded pistol, forgetting the safety, and blowing a hole in your own foot.

Don’t forget about the others who voted against the Palestinian recognition too – their standing in world affairs will also fall.

A paradigm shift was required to change the status quo. The Jewish government are behaving like southerners did toward blacks in America.

    • Jim W. Dean  October 31, 2011 at 7:05 pm

Whoa now. The Northern Black Code laws did not even allow blacks in some of the states. And some that did not allow more than three to congregate at one time. Of course none of any of this stuff is known by anyone.

Almost all the profits on slavery transportation funded the New England blue blood families. I would say our own racial historical blind spots are on the scale of the Zionist propaganda, where the story the general public knows is a fairy tale.

The first court case in America converting over the original work term indentured servant laws was a black slave owner petitioning his black slaves and their offspring to internal bondage. He won his case. And this missive somehow gets missed during Black History Month, which is kind of like listening to the Zios founding of Israel.

And as for the black on white rape epidemic, which the media refuses to even acknowledge, when I share the stats with them….roughly 35,000 a year…they are aghast…and of course they realize that it is being covered up.

It is an issue we will be into more, as there is a ton of archival material to blow the myths away. But it sadly is not a priority. These women are forgotten victims. As a group they have been dragged behind the American conscience truck an almost no one cares because they don’t know.

Soon after the vote, the United States cut funding to the organization because of a U.S. law that bars funding an organization that has Palestine as a member before an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal is reached.

That decision will have an immediate effect: The United States won’t make a $60 million payment scheduled for November, according to State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland.

UNESCO depends heavily on U.S. funding – Washington provides 22 percent of its budget or about $80 million a year – but has survived without it in the past: The United States pulled out of UNESCO under President Ronald Reagan, rejoining two decades later under President George W. Bush.

    • Texas Johnny  October 31, 2011 at 1:17 pm

UNESCO sacrificed itself for the slowly, fading away Palestinian people.

  9. Derek  October 31, 2011 at 1:01 pm

“Israel” is the only controversy here and should be expelled from the UN for not adhering to the very condition it was admitted on. Hell it should not even be here if there was any justice.

  10. wallytron  October 31, 2011 at 12:44 pm

us just now cut off its funding unesco

    • Texas Johnny  October 31, 2011 at 12:55 pm

The voting indicates that the rest of the world is somewhat free, but the US is still in chains. The Occupy Wall Street folks know something is wrong, but they can’t quite see through the fog. That’s why we need to educate the sheeple at every opportunity. Lee Whitnum is the best example. She is using her campaign for the Senate to get media exposure and talk about the Israel lobby. If we just had ONE Lee Whitnum, just one, in every state, it would be enough to wake up the people.

    • Jim W. Dean  October 31, 2011 at 6:54 pm

This will just lower our international standing even lower. And it will be another glaring example of how Dems running the show or Repubs, that maintaining party control requires the Jewish community support.

Frankly, I think it hurts our national security and can argue that with them all day long…and with lots of archival records to support it…not just an angry anti-Ziolite.

    • Debbie  October 31, 2011 at 8:22 pm

I have long suspected Obama has been working with Europe and others from outside inside to CHANGE the status quo. He knows he will never have the support of either Congress or the American people unless he first exposes and proves the powerlessness of the US President in America and the dangers of continuing the policy of blind/stupid subservience to Israel. In that respect he has been successful.

    • Nelson_2008  November 1, 2011 at 6:32 am

He’s so utterly powerless he can’t do anything? Well he seems to have plenty of power when it comes to to murdering people. He seems to have plenty of power when it comes to expanding the ZOG Empire. Let’s face it you could say the same thing about poor Ted Bundy or Poor Jack The Ripper for that matter…they were simply powerless to change anything about their behavior; and it would make as much (non)sense.

As a practical matter all Obama would have to do to “change the status quo” would be to obstruct the Jewish agenda; to simply not go along with it. If he REALLY wanted to put an end to the madness, all he would have to do is to investigate, say, the anthrax attacks.

But he won’t, because, just like Bush before him, Obama is pure evil. He didn’t simply stumble into office, he knew precisely what he was doing when he sold his soul to the Jews for a taste of power. He knew he would be required to advance the bloody Jewish supremacist agenda, and that’s precisely what he’s been doing.

If all the horrific evil he’s done so far has failed to convince you, what would it literally take to convince you?

Looks like the zionists are running out of options. The US hasn’t attacked Iran, people are rioting in the streets over the zionist Mafia’s endless larceny and theft and even many ignorant Christian Americans are waking up to the truth of Israel’s lies and depravity.

I’d say the time is very close for the Reptilians to play their trump card: a false-flag nuclear 9/11 on some American cities by the Mossad (like 9/11) but designed to implicate Iran or Pakistan, i.e. start WWIII.

Keep your eyes open and maybe we can catch this filthy vermin before they destroy the world…..

What is the significance of UNESCO?

    • Gordon Duff  October 31, 2011 at 5:01 pm

      UNESCO is very “French”
VT has its Paris bureau there….eating the free food etc.

I did ask them to get interviews with Palestinian reps.

    • Debbie Menon  October 31, 2011 at 5:20 pm

      @ 60sstreetpunk

The French are unique. Besides the world’s best cuisine and matching wine….

Membership of course brings important benefits for Palestinians. For one thing, UNESCO protects world heritage sites. The Israelis have been systematically erasing Palestinian heritage with impunity, and they’ve been trying to put their name on Jerusalem by nominating the Old City for World Heritage status when it doesn’t even belong to them.

“This note appears in UNESCO’s Tentative List:

This concerns the property entitled “Jerusalem – the Old City and Ramparts to include Mount Zion” proposed by Israel as an extension to the “Old City of Jerusalem and its Walls” inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1981, upon proposal by Jordan. The Committee at its 25th Session (Helsinki, 2001) endorsed the recommendation of the 25th session of its Bureau (Paris, June 2001)

“to postpone further consideration of this nomination proposal until an agreement on the status of the City of Jerusalem in conformity with International Law is reached, or until the parties concerned submit a joint nomination”.

It also refers to a resolution by the UNESCO General Conference stating that “nothing in the present decision, which is aimed at the safeguarding of the cultural heritage of the Old City of Jerusalem, shall in any way affect the relevant United Nations resolutions and decisions, in particular the relevant Security Council resolutions on the legal status of Jerusalem”.

The Tentative List is an inventory of those cultural and natural heritage sites of outstanding universal value that each member state intends to nominate for inclusion on the World Heritage List.

So Palestine will at last be able to submit its important sites in its own name for inclusion and protection from Israel’s malicious destructiveness, including perhaps Jerusalem’s Old City and especially the Temple Mount, under which Israel has been conducting unwelcome excavations.”

Great news. The zionist supremacist controlled US Congress, the last remaining racist apartheid regime in Israel and their friends in Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Palau, Panama, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sweden and Vanuatu have agreed to create a new United Nations and cut off contact with the rest of the 179 nations in the world. LOL

    • Derek  October 31, 2011 at 1:05 pm

Thanks for that list. Surprised at Sweden, Netherlands and Germany. Shows how the zionists occupy their govts who dont speak for their people.

United States of Israel usual thuggery…

‘Before the vote, the US said it would stop its funding to Unesco if the Palestinians’ bid was accepted

The U.S. just cut it off. Read it on Press TV.
