While DPSCS ensures the security, safety and well being of defendants and offenders under its supervision, the Department also is dedicated to lowering recidivism rates. DPSCS’s new philosophy of corrections and public safety is called RESTART – Reentry Enforcement Services Targeting Addictions Rehabilitation and Treatment. RESTART is designed to reduce crime by reducing the number of repeat offenders who return to the State’s prison system.

Our generous leave package includes from ten to 25 days of annual (vacation) leave per year, depending on seniority, as well as six personal days each calendar year. Maryland State employees are eligible for participation in a contributory defined benefit pension plan in which they are vested after five years. State employees are also eligible to participate in two supplemental retirement plans: the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan and the 401(k) Savings and Investment Plan.
