ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The beheaded bodies of two Syrian media workers have been found in Turkey’s southeastern province of Şanlıurfa, the Hurriyet Daily reported on Friday.
The victims, who worked for Syria’s Ayn Vatan newspaper, were identified as managing editor Ibrahim Abdulkadir and Firza Hamdi, a reporter. Both were originally from the ISIS-held city of Raqqa.
The bodies of the beheaded journalists were found in their apartment.
Turkish media said the two men had fled the war in Syria and shared a flat in Şanlıurfa’s Haliliye district. It was reported that both journalists were members of the Free Syrian Army and had been receiving death threats from ISIS for writing reports critical of the terror group.
The journalists’ bodies will undergo autopsy and police say an investigation has been opened.
