IS THERE A PROGRAM TO HOUSE VETERANS IN VACANT OR REPOSSESSED HOMES?

I don’t know how many of us fall into this category, but as time goes on and “the Greatest Generation” passes on, those of us in that next generation end up with their homes. So, in this case, I have a question and I am looking for a reader out there with an answer. Are there programs that make use of privately owned but vacant property or perhaps some of the hundreds of thousands of abandoned homes for use by veterans?
I have property I am not able to rent or, let’s say, unwilling to rent under normal circumstances and I suspect I am not the only one. It just seems insane to me to be paying utilities, taxes, mowing etc. on, not just a home but farm while people are homeless.
I am dealing with property in Kentucky.
I can recognize that managing such a program would be difficult. But for circumstances, I could be the one looking as could any of us. Please, send this around to the decision makers and see if someone is working on such a thing. VT and, I am certain, other publications and organizations are more than willing to put some effort into promoting such an effort.
If we have identified the problem, how many vets, individuals, families, with or without children, where they are located, what kind of need they have, I am certain that the 20 billion dollars the DVA has earmarked for this kind of problem can somehow be applied.
