Antiwar Protesters Turn Their Sights on Obama

In today’s Washington Post we now have definite indications that the American people are starting to move in the direction of civil disobedience to protest American involvement in western Asian wars.  The first article is here.

Note to guys my age:  Go up into the attic and try and find your Richard Nixon mask to wear in the streets.

Try and remember, they are protesting a Democratic Party president, not  a GOP President.  Protest was not openly allowed under a GOP administration…"free speech zones" were rigidly enforced…that essentially means protestors were corraled blocks away from the media.

Democrats don’t do that for a number of reasons.  This is the result.  Protest is coming out into the open.  Stand by.  This ain’t going to be pretty.  This is just the beginning.

In another article Secretary of Defense Gates is warning all advisors to the President to keep their advice private and not posted in the media.  There seems to be a growing rift between the Pentagon advisors and the White House civilian advisors.  The infighting is being leaked publicly on all fronts. The story is here.

In an article in the Business Section Alan Greenspan says that unemployment will rise to ten percent soon and stay there for awhile.  The article is here.

Now I have a question to ask.

With official unemployment lurking close to 10% which means that real unemployment is probably in the area of about 18% is it time to really look seriously at the $660 billion dollar annual defense budgets we have and talk about halving them?  That amount of money spent on the interests of the war industry elites’ portfolios is obscene.

It is time to bring that money home.  I don’t want to hear any howls from the war industry supporters.  It is time to bring American taxpayer monies home to help out the American taxpayer.  This is nuts.  This is like something out of a Fellini movie.  It is absolutely surreal. We need that money here.

We have to stop financing the world’s largest Offense Department at the expense of the American worker and taxpayer.  This defies logic, reason, good sense and the Constitution.

The Constitution says that the government is supposed to provide for the "common defense".  It says nothing about subsidizing the common offense. We need an Imperial Legion stationed virtually everywhere around the globe about as much as we need another news story on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Talk about overkill!

Our "defense capability" is slowly strangling us to death.  And maybe not even so slowly.  This is very serious now.  That much needed money and those precious lives are being wasted.  I see no reason for the soldiers or the money to be wasted in western Asia. Do you?

Am I the only guy that sees this?  I feel like a lone coyote here.  How hard is this to see? We have no clear mission in western Asia, our people are killing and being killed and the cost of this tragic nuttiness is huge. We are actually paying for this folly!

As of today, according to this article, we have 774 deaths in the Afghanistan area.  Here is an excerpt from that article:

"As of Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at least 774 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department. The department last updated its figures Friday at 10 a.m. EDT.

Of those, the military reports 595 were killed by hostile action."

War gets people killed.  It is not a football game.  Even the winners lose. With that in mind, we are obligated to wage wars knowing full well that the price will be huge.  So the reasons better be clear, supported by the citizenry and just.

Do you think that is the case here?  Me neither.
