VA Awards Funds to Renovate Veterans Home
August 5, 2004

WASHINGTON  The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded a grant of more than $1.3 million to the state of Nebraska for improvements at the state veterans’ home in Grand Island.

“This grant reflects the federal-state partnership that is honoring our commitment to care for the men and women who have served in uniform,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi.  “This partnership provides a comfortable setting for veterans in a time of great personal need.”

The grant to the Nebraska is for a standby generator and improvements in the chilled water system.  The VA grant will pay up to 65 percent of the costs.  The overall price tag for the project is $2.1 million.

Nebraska‘s four veterans homes offer a full range of health care services to residents.  Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis.  Information about the Nebraska Veterans Home can be obtained by calling (308) 385-6252.
