Remains of US servicemen repatriated

Two sets of remains believed to belong to American servicemen missing in action from the Vietnam War will be handed over to US authorities today at Danang airport in central Vietnam.

The transfer ceremony is to be held by the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP) and the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), local Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported.

The remains were recovered by joint US-Vietnamese teams recovered from two out of five sites in northern and central Vietnam during the 83rd joint field activity from 13 October through 14 November 2005.

They are to be brought to a laboratory at an US airbase in Hawaii where the forensic identification process would begin, the paper said.

There are 1,380 Americans still unaccounted-for from the US war in Southeast Asia.
