…Or to have the United States forgive Japan (OFFICIALLY)
by Robert Schneider
Recently, Japan apologized to a few Asian governments but they excluded the United States. What is important is that we take advantage of what appears to be a trend by getting an apology OR by asking Congress to Forgive Japan officially with no strings attached. Letter writing hasn’t been especially successful but now there is an approach which eliminates the drawbacks of letter-writing and makes the process both easy and with a better chance of it reaching President Bush; etc. E-mail results in your receiving an Auto Responder reply which does not even pertain to your E-mail.
One thing is certain and that is we must do something FAST to be heard by Washington (by the President) CONGRESS.ORG. offers the simplicity that we want and requires very little time but please take the opportunity to send in your action request now while there seems to be an opportunity to make a difference. Some facts that you may decide to work into your mail to Congress.org are:
(1) Your request is for your government to get an apology from Japan or that Congress forgive Japan officially for their atrocities of WW II. Forgiving may be easier to manage.
(2) It has been 60 years since the war and virtually no action was taken. This should not be construed as meaning that action now is useless; to the contrary, it can give younger people a present, a past and establish a heritage.
(3) The CONGRESS.ORG form provides the names of certain recipients; it is suggested that you address it first to President Bush, then Federal Senators, etc.
(4) Talking this up to friends, school instructors, church, etc. will be a big help. The more the better.
(5) This could be our last chance so it’s up to you!
Good luck,
Robert Schneider
