On 9-11, the nation memorialized the victims of the terrible tragedy in New York City and honored the many heroes on the ground, in the towers and in the air. Today, five years after the tragedy, emotions still ran high and firemen continued to receive plaudits. The day was as it should have been and people are still glued to their television sets reliving that awful day 5 years ago. Tears can still be seen.
Now move back in time 60 years to the end of WW-II. Fact: to the present, Japan has not offered an official apology and those that were offered were deemed to be unofficial (not approved by the diet). I worked for the last ½ year to get an apology but Washington, the Oval Office, Congress and the VFW blocked my endeavors so that no mail on this subject could leave the center of democracy. The story is long but the point is what happened defied a rational, statistical explanation.
To me the passage of 60 years is not important but what is important is the fighting spirit dormant in Americans. An apology is needed for closure, to honor veterans and to preserve the Heritage for our youth…
One of two things must happen to get an apology (or alternatively let the United States forgive Japan with no strings attached.) This can be achieved by the government realizing what they haven’t done over a period of 60 years or veterans and other citizens across the country must contact their politicians and, in no uncertain terms, tell them what they want.
The above is abbreviated but it serves my purpose. The attention given to 9-11 from the tragedy to today is hard to explain after considering World War (II). Think no wrong, today was right in every way ; I need not tell you what was wrong for 60 years. Look to Washington and tell them what you want. Get an apology from Japan or let the United States FORGIVE Japan for its atrocities 1941-1945. We are friends but let’s put this insane situation to rest . Shake hands and walk away to a sane life with the War ended once and for all.
