FIGHT FOR TYLER. HE FOUGHT FOR YOU

Parents of Iraq War Marine Plea to fellow Veterans to help defend against alleged Iraq War Crimes

In Support of Tyler the Marine

Our son, Tyler, is one of the Few, the Proud, one of the U.S. Marines being held in the Camp Pendleton brig, charged during an investigation into an alleged April 26th event.  He is one of the good guys and has never been in any trouble.

He joined the Marines in March of 2005 without any delusions about what the job would require of him or the sacrifices he would have to make, and willingly continues to make. He did it proudly and voluntarily, in hopes of making a difference, and to defend his country, his fellow Marines, and his family.  He deployed to Iraq in January and has served his country honorably.

He has been shot at, IED’ed, and has put his life on the line, asking nothing in return.  We are more proud of him than I could begin to tell you.  We love him and stand beside him and behind him one hundred percent.

He is innocent of any wrong doing, yet sits in the brig since May 24th in solitary confinement, handcuffed, chained and shackled.  We just learned on June 15, 2006 that his status has been changed from Maximum Security to Medium Security.  He now can move out of his cell for an hour a day and for visits on weekends.

A step in the right direction, small though it may be, in the whole scheme of things.  Not exactly the hero’s homecoming that he deserves.

We were not able to wave flags, give hugs and kisses nor express our immense joy at that long awaited event of his homecoming.  Instead we had to visit him in a room the size of a closet, separated by glass and were unable to touch him.  Guards were present and our every move was watched.

To send these men to War to do a job and then imprison them for doing it is absurd.  Why were they being held in these conditions when they were neither charged nor convicted of anything?  Why did it take so long to appointed Military Counsel?  Why are they being subjected to less rights and freedom of movement than the very terrorists they put their lives on the line to protect the world from?

Why is this happening at all?

How many other sons, daughters, husbands, and fathers could be killed because now they might hesitate to perform their duties for fear of being prosecuted?  Are these types of false accusations an insurgent tactic to disrupt and demoralize the troops and divide the American public?  Is anything being done to prove this information?  How does democracy survive when we imprison those that do their duty to protect it.  Has the Marine Corps done an about face and marched away from their men for their own political purposes?

What has happened to SEMPER FI here?

I would also urge you to contact your Congressional Representatives, Senators and the President to demand they fight for the rights and freedom of the very men who fight to protect theirs (see below for links)

We cannot begin to tell you the agony that our son and we are going through, but the show of support that I have witnessed is quite uplifting.  We would like our son to see that too.

Any letters of support, words of encouragement and appreciation that you could give him would be an absolute Godsend and we thank you.

Mother, Father and Brother of Tyler
