The Floyd Flowers Bio
There's an old saying in the music business … "it all begins with a song." The right song can jumpstart a career and Floyd Flowers has done just that. This singer-songwriter from Pitt County, North Carolina is continuing to make valuable connections within the Nashville entertainment community. In 2001, Floyd teamed up Nashville producer/promoter, James Williams, to work his 2004 debut album, Guitars, Heartaches, And Honky Tonk Nights. He earned his first # 1 song on the Indie World charts with "Bring It On Home." That success was followed with a #1 song on both the Indie World and Inside Country charts with the single, "She's Got It" and it also reached #19 on New Music Weekly.
In 2006, Floyd released his second album, I Ain't Much But I'm All I Got. His first single, "Since You Moved Out, I Moved Her In," reached #17 on the New Music Weekly charts and #48 on Music Row. This whimsical song depicts the end of a romance with a girlfriend being replaced by a new love – a big screen TV just in time for football. Floyd, a huge sports fan, recorded this song in 32 NFL Football versions (a version for each team) and released a video which can be seen on www.cmt.com.
Throughout his years honkytonkin', Floyd had mirrored his heroes such as George Jones, Chet Atkins and Merle Haggard with appearances nationwide including the Oklahoma Opry, Carolina Opry, the famed Tootsie's in Nashville, as well as many TV appearances. Opening for varied artists like Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart, Emerson Drive and Cowboy Crush, Floyd built a foundation as a classic country performer. In 2006, he received the Traditional Male Vocalist of the Year award from the Indie World, was nominated for Breakout Country Artist by New Music Weekly, and won a National Bluegrass Competition several years ago.
Growing up in Virginia, this country boy, Floyd, remembers listening to the Old Dominion Barn Dance on the radio. His family lived close to the Barn Dance band members and young Floyd was a musical sponge. He had the opportunity to play stick guitar at the young age of 5. Floyd was born to sing country music. "From that moment, I knew I wanted to play and sing for an audience."
Young Floyd was adopted by his grandfather's twin sister after his biological mother was unable to make ends meet. Though Floyd never met his real father, a highly decorated Staff Sgt., he found a dad in his great uncle, Floyd Sr. When he was only12, he was writing and singing his tunes. "My Mom always encouraged me to keep playing and singing. When I write, my songs seem to come naturally. I'm a tool in the creative end of music and I feel blessed with this talent."
During his high school years, Floyd enlisted in the Army Reserve, and after a few years transferred to the U.S. Navy Active Duty. "During this time, I kept singing and picking my guitar." His talent was recognized when he won the army Southwest Regional Vocal Competition. While in the Navy, he also won recognition as "Atlantic Fleat Singer."
After serving in the army, Floyd studied business administration at Lenoir College in NC and also at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. He also spent several years studying at Ambassador College in Texas, learning theology and translation of the Bible and has received an honorary doctrine of Divinity for teaching.
This Disabled Vet is quick with a laugh and a strong. He can relate to the every man out there, who is trying to make ends meet. He has worked construction, had his own dry wall company and has even been trained as a practical nurse.
Floyd's values are old fashioned and his music is anything but pop. "My musical style is clean and country. I choose and write the best songs to give the audience a glimpse of who I am." Floyd is on the path to pursue his love of country music. "I'm thankful to be a part of such a beautiful thing. My goal is to keep playing and doing whatever I can to keep country country – the pure traditional way."
