Montel takes on Fox News Montel Williams Loses Job after Defending Troops on Fox News [VIDEO]
by Brandon Friedman

For just over three minutes on Saturday morning, TV talk show host Montel Williams owned the hosts of Fox and Friends.  A former Marine and Naval officer, Montel lectured the stunned hosts on the stupidity of spending air time on the death of Heath Ledger, rather than covering the war in Iraq.  It was a spectacle rarely seen on live cable television, as Montel exposed and condemned both tabloid "news" shows and much of American culture for what they have each become: shallow and greedy.

Three minutes into this awkward segment on Fox, one host cut off Montel in order to go to a commercial.  Montel did not return after the break.  Four days later, after 17 years as a television host, Montel lost his job.  Variety reported on Wednesday that the fate of "The Montel Williams Show" was sealed when key Fox-owned stations opted not to renew it for the 2008-09 season.

I have no idea whether Montel already knew his show wasn’t going to be renewed, and thus felt emboldened to cut loose on the air, or whether his firing was a result of his actions on Saturday…

Either way, Montel Williams exhibited courage this week that few in the television industry ever will.  And for that, American troops around the world stand with him.  We support him not only because he stood up for the troops, but because he did it on Fox News—a station that has done more damage to the U.S. military since 9/11 than any other.

Montel Williams is an American patriot.  Though he left the military years ago, he has never forgotten "his" troops.

For that we salute and thank you, Montel.  Best of luck with whatever you choose to do next.

A reader responds:
Dear Sir:
I am a US Army veteran and want to comment on your posting of the Montel Williams article/video.
I whole heartedly agree with Mr. Williams opinion on the shallowness and greediness of a large part of American Society, however, the "spin" of the article making it appear that Mr. Williams was referring only to Fox news is clearly not the case. Mr. Williams, and I for that matter, recognize that it is the whole of American media that is constantly grabbing for ratings and emphasizing these more trivial matters while seemingly ignoring the plight and sacrifice of American soldiers and their families.
Also, shame on the articles author, Brandon Friedman for using Mr. Williams comments as a "cover" to bash Fox news. Any elementary research on Mr. Friedman and the website forum "The Daily Kos" -where the article originated- would have allowed you to realize the bias that exists against Fox news on this website and their continual and unabashed efforts to continually discredit Fox news or any other organization or individual who criticizes their practices. The Daily Kos has allowed, virtually unchecked, a multitude of bloggers and commentators who espouse and spew many hate-filled, obscene, and inappropriate comments against many individuals as well as inappropriate photos. You may recall it was the "Kos" that displayed the doctored photo of Senator Joseph Leiberman giving President Bush a B***-Job. Fox news has called them on this and brought to light many of the "Kos’s" very far left-leaning, untruthful and vitriolic comments on their website. And this is their latest untruth, saying that Fox news is: "a station that has done more damage to the U.S. military since 9-11 than any other". I think you’ll find that this organization has in fact done more for the military than all the others.
I understand your wanting Mr. Williams comments seen, but I can’t believe you meant to give credence or credibility to the "The Daily Kos" and  their manipulations.
I hope you might post this on your VT website and let people read and research this for themselves and see if it is not true.
Respectfully,
Ted Howard
US Army veteran
Enterprise, AL.
