OLD AND NEW SUBJECTS AND IN UNENDING WAR

BY G. DUFF

It is hard to think about Iran and Iraq, even though everyone I know tells me we are planning to bomb Iran, when our roads are starting to empty out and the supermarket shelves are scaring people to death.  Why bother bringing anyone home to a country they can only starve in.  Are things really getting this bad?  A trip to the store tells you quickly enough.  Flour that was 69 cents is a $159 a bag.  Eggs that were 89 cents are $1.79.  The chickens are all marked down to $1.28 a pound and starting to smell.  They used to cost 78 cents a pound.  People won’t even buy chicken at Meijers.

I note that the IPI, Imaginary Price Index, used by our government to pay veterans and military stays flat as a pancake beside the 25% increase in costs on everything from heating fuel to baloney.  Bush is still fighting to keep GI bill payments down, this time so troops won’t be quitting the military to get an education.  Bush still has dreams of invading Iran before he leaves office.  He had better be careful, Iran is full of Halliburton employees, working there financing the nuclear program.

All the nations of the world are in Ghana trying to figure out why food prices have doubled in 60 days.  We aren’t going to tell them that a few companies in the US and elsewhere have banded together to run food and oil prices thru the roof while they load their overseas bank accounts.  That would be conspiracy theory.   We can all blame the ethanol plants that are being built everywhere that are using up all the corn for fuel.  I am waiting for a chance to buy some of that 10 dollar a gallon ethanol to see if it really destroys cars like they claim.

Decision time is at hand for many.  What do we give up.  Tens of thousands have given up their homes.  I am trying to figure where people go when their homes are reposessed. We hear that this is happening on a massive scale nationwide but have never seen the story of a single family that has had to move, relocate, live in a car or rent an apartment.

I would suggest that people get jobs in telemarketing or customer service.  The cost of living in India is fairly low and relocating your family there could have some real advantages.  They have cars that cost $3000, eat very little meat and many areas of India are warm all year long.  Plastic surgery and heart transplants are cheap and you can buy a kidney if you need one.  These are reasons enough to move.

For many Americans, the difference would be minimal.  Most Americans drive cars worth $3000 dollars the moment they leave the showroom anyway, can afford meat and Al Gore tells us that global warming will save us from heating bills in a few years.  Wages are already moving toward the same range as India with NAFTA and 7 years of open borders protected by "Minutemen" and "Homeland Security".   I already do my own maid work and gardening and buy my own food.  I should pay myself a wage for that.  That could double my income and I could start eating meat again.  I need to get a Harvard Business degree like Bush, then I could understand all of this.

It doesn’t matter alot what we say and do.  It seems "they" are planning a new ‘gov’mint for us.  I just hope we don’t have to start a nuclear war between Israel and Iran to get that nutcase McCain into office until his last brain cell explodes.
