FILNER’S "AGENT ORANGE EQUITY ACT" WOEFULLY INADEQUATE

— House Vets’ Chair reneges on promise to help "all veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange" by leaving out those exposed outside Vietnam.  Much has been made of Rep. Bob Filner’s (D-CA) "Agent Orange Equity Act of 2008," H.R. 6562.

Some vets think this will resolve the exposure to Agent Orange issues because it includes those exposed in "the inland waterways of such Republic [Vietnam], the waters offshore of such Republic, and the airspace above such Republic."

Filner is playing games.

He doesn’t include those veterans exposed in nearby countries such as Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.  He also forgets about other areas through which large quantities of Agent Orange were shipped (and used) such as Guam.

This is strange because Filner had promised to help all veterans exposed to Agent Orange, no matter where.  Filner said, "I believe all veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange, and who developed illnesses as a result of that exposure, deserve to receive disability benefits and compensation for their sacrifice." .

Filner is not keeping his promise.  If he really meant what he said, this legislation will be rewritten to include ALL veterans exposed to Agent Orange ANYWHERE.  We’re waiting, Bob!
