RUSSIAN “INVASION” OF GEORGIA DONE IN RESPONSE TO ATTACKS MOTIVATED BY U.S. POLITICS AND OIL

By Gordon Duff

Vladimir Putin considers the small nation of Georgia as a “private project” of the Bush Administration and its operatives.  Putin alleges that his attack on Georgia is in response to their recent attacks killing 9 Russian peacekeepers.

Top McCain advisor and key Iraq War intel manipulator, Randy Scheunemann, now paid advisor and lobbyist for Georgia is alleged to have helped bring about the current war as a campaign ruse.

Allegations that McCains operatives have been manipulating the “puppet government” of Georgia are not as far fetched as they seem.  McCain advisor Scheunemann drafted legislation to get Georgia into NATO, considered by many to be an extreme provocation to Russia and a clearly insane act against both NATO and American interests.

Georgia’s initiation of the war in order to elicit a Russian response is not being openly reported in the US press.

Reports from Israel indicate that initial attacks by Georgian troops were led by Israeli commandos.  Complex issues on Israel’s role in pipeline routing and ownership may also be a contributing force behind the underlying “oil-driven” aspect of the conflict.

Investigations show recent lobbying contracts with the McCain group and a long series of calls leading up to the current war.  Allegations that a staged confrontation with Russia prior to a national election would bolster flagging McCain support, despite his recent influx of oil dollars, was manipulated, even though thousands are likely to die and the real risk of nuclear war must be considered.

The idea that paid foreign operatives can also advise presidential candidates is, by many, considered, not only the conflict of interest but bordering on grounds for treason.  Questions about the amount of influence the McCain campaign has on election year “convenient national security threats” are being asked.

McCain’s history of not only supporting the Iraq War but actually working, for years, to push the government into accepting phony intelligence and alliances with discredited Iraqi exiles like Chalabi tend to color McCain as irresponsible, gullible and short-sighted.

We are now faced with having to judge political candidates thru their take on the Georgia War, a war that may have been planned at the outset specifically for a presidential campaign. Similar charges of treasonous “electioneering” were made against former president George Bush for his alleged meetings with Iranian terrorists during the Carter Administration hostage crisis.

Charges were made during the 2004 election when “timely and mysterious” Osama Bin Laden tapes surfaced just prior to election day.

Georgia has long had close ties with key Bush officials and still has 2000 troops serving in Iraq, one of the few nations to remain in support of the controversial American efforts there.

The US military has armed advisors training and, perhaps, serving with the Georgian military.  We are also said to have several helicopters and counter-terrorism forces operating in that country.  American troops in Georgia are not subject to local laws and can travel in and out of the country at will.

Israel is said to have 1000 advisors in Georgia and to have provided, not only training but advanced armaments, intel gathering hardware and command and control systems for the Georgian military.

IRISH BELIEVE RUSSIA HAS INVADED THE US ACCORDING TO MAP

The risk of armed Russian and American troops coming into conflict here or in Iran where Russia mans Iran’s defenses increases the risks of unforeseen incidents “taking on a life of their own” and broadening the current conflict.  The humiliation of US-trained and equipped forces by Russian troops and our failure to offer anything but “humanitarian aid”can’t help but significantly lower US credibility around the world.

Israel backs Georgia in Caspian Oil Pipeline Battle with Russia

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report

August 8, 2008

Georgian tanks and infantry, aided by Israeli military advisers, captured the capital of breakaway South Ossetia, Tskhinvali, early Friday, Aug. 8, bringing the Georgian-Russian conflict over the province to a military climax.

Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin threatened a “military response.”

Former Soviet Georgia called up its military reserves after Russian warplanes bombed its new positions in the renegade province.

In Moscow’s first response to the fall of Tskhinvali, president Dimitry Medvedev ordered the Russian army to prepare for a national emergency after calling the UN Security Council into an emergency session early Friday.

Reinforcements were rushed to the Russian “peacekeeping force” present in the region to support the separatists.

Georgian tanks entered the capital after heavy overnight heavy aerial strikes, in which dozens of people were killed.

Lado Gurgenidze, Georgia’s prime minister, said on Friday that Georgia will continue its military operation in South Ossetia until a “durable peace” is reached. “As soon as a durable peace takes hold we need to move forward with dialogue and peaceful negotiations.”

DEBKAfile’s geopolitical experts note that on the surface level, the Russians are backing the separatists of S. Ossetia and neighboring Abkhazia as payback for the strengthening of American influence in tiny Georgia and its 4.5 million inhabitants. However, more immediately, the conflict has been sparked by the race for control over the pipelines carrying oil and gas out of the Caspian region.

The Russians may just bear with the pro-US Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili’s ambition to bring his country into NATO. But they draw a heavy line against his plans and those of Western oil companies, including Israeli firms, to route the oil routes from Azerbaijan and the gas lines from Turkmenistan, which transit Georgia, through Turkey instead of hooking them up to Russian pipelines.

Saakashvili need only back away from this plan for Moscow to ditch the two provinces’ revolt against Tbilisi. As long as he sticks to his guns, South Ossetia and Abkhazia will wage separatist wars.

DEBKAfile discloses Israel’s interest in the conflict from its exclusive military sources:

Jerusalem owns a strong interest in Caspian oil and gas pipelines reach the Turkish terminal port of Ceyhan, rather than the Russian network. Intense negotiations are afoot between Israel Turkey, Georgia, Turkmenistan, and Azarbaijan for pipelines to reach Turkey and thence to Israel’s oil terminal at Ashkelon and on to its Red Sea port of Eilat. From there, supertankers can carry the gas and oil to the Far East through the Indian Ocean.

Aware of Moscow’s sensitivity to the oil question, Israel offered Russia a stake in the project but was rejected.

Last year, the Georgian president commissioned from private Israeli security firms several hundred military advisers, estimated at up to 1,000, to train the Georgian armed forces in commando, air, sea, armored, and artillery combat tactics. They also offer instruction on military intelligence and security for the central regime. Tbilisi also purchased weapons, intelligence, and electronic warfare systems from Israel.

These advisers were undoubtedly deeply involved in the Georgian army’s preparations to conquer the South Ossetian capital Friday.

In recent weeks, Moscow has repeatedly demanded that Jerusalem halt its military assistance to Georgia, finally threatening a crisis in bilateral relations. Israel responded by saying that the only assistance rendered Tbilisi was “defensive.”

This has not gone down well in the Kremlin. Therefore, as the military crisis intensifies in South Ossetia, Moscow may be expected to punish Israel for its intervention.
