Today’s announcement of an underage family pregnancy "mishap" and possible earlier coverup may actually be a breath of fresh air for the stodgy GOP. Palin’s hypocracy may bring her down from judgemental and sactimonious to "just plain folks." Add this to dad’s DWI conviction and we have the makings of a real American family. MAYBE HER VOCAL OPPOSITION TO SEX EDUCATION AND "ABSTINANCE ONLY"PREACHING HAS FINALLY COME HOME TO ROOST.
How do we explain Sarah Palin? Is she simply the "flat earth" nutcase conservatives crave? Her positions denying global warming though a governor of a rapidly thawing state would support this. So would her position advocating "creationism" as a mandatory subject in public schools. Her stance against abortion even in cases of rape and incest line her up perfectly with the most ignorant and extreme of our society. Well into her 40’s, she chose to have a child with serious birth defects unless "coverup" pundits are correct. Her choice should be respected but her desire to take away that right from others, against all medical rationale, will only intimidate mothers over 35 from having the children they have waited and hoped for. Conservatism is often served with more than a ration of cruelty.
She even shows hope as a politican, though her spotty education and "weathergirl" background make her more of a female Dan Quayle. Palin entered politics based on her support of the half billion dollar "bridge to nowhere", the most famous pork project in recent history. This now abandoned project which Palin has "flip-flopped" on, thankfully, would have rerouted funds enough to have armored every Humvee in Iraq into the pockets of key Republican contractors.

Yet Palin is filled with contradictions. She is an advocate of anything "big oil" asks for, even if it involves wiping out polar bears but she also raised taxes on oil companies and gave each family in Alaska $1200 dollars of oil money. Fiscally, she sounds like a "McCain Liberal" to me.
Palin’s oddest issue, though the former covergirl has a limited track record, is her vendetta against her former brother in law, an Air Force veteran and Alaska State trooper. While pretending to keep her hands clean, Palin used the party political machine, private investigators and even fired Alaska law enforcement head and top cop Walt Monegan for standing up to her. Her nickname of "Sarah Barracuda" seems to be well earned.
Her sisters messy divorce and the use of every state agency and power to interfere puts sister/governor Palin well into the "liberal feminazi" category. Trooper Wooten, continually referred to as "criminal and malcontent" has been the subject of one of the most personal and abusive campaigns ever concocted. With the internet cleaned of Governor Sarah’s "partygirl history" (almost) and nothing about her sister, charges against Wooten, 478 pages of them, are everywhere.
The most frightening of the charges resulting from private investigators and endless ramblings from "the wife’s family" during the divorce are:
1. Wooten has made illegal lane changes while driving.
2. Wooten was seen with a can of beer in his patrol car once.
3. Wooten threatened his wife’s family for interfering in their marriage….duh.
4. Wooten illegally shot a moose. Mind you, not "poaching" but a minor technical violation during a licensed legal hunt. Maybe if Wooten had killed a few hundred polar bears for Sarah’s oil boys, they might have covered this up.
5. He tasered his 11 year old nephew. However, the "tasering" turned out to be an overblown liberal blowhard charge as the unit was in a test mode and barely able to be felt.
Frankly, 90% of the charges seem to be concocted by people paid or pushed by the governor’s personal vendetta against this officer. This has brought about an official investigation of Palin who fired the head of the Alaska State Police for failing to "take direction" in turning on this officer.
The end result of this vendetta and the lies told to cover it up has been for Governor Palin to have to "lawyer up" and get some advice as to when to stop talking and put the brain into gear. Perhaps Senator McCain could use the same advice.
Anyone who thinks the people who defend us, our police or our military, are "perfect angels" doesn’t own a TV. Male or female, this is a tough group doing a tough job. When cops beat veterans in wheelchairs I let them know. I suspect if Wooten was beating a crippled vet in front of the Republican Convention in Minneapolis, Palin would find nothing wrong. Morals and ethics are handy. They can be molded like putty to fit any occasion.
Using Palin as the new "moral compass" of the Republican party may be a good move for McCain. Her history is to only see bad in her enemies and competitors. She will fit in well.
