Use of 911 Tribute Video at RNC HORRIFIC use of Fear Mongering

Republican National Convention Made Me Angry

by Amy Branham, Gold Star Mother

Admittedly, I have not watched as much of the RNC as I did the DNC last week. But I have given an hour here and there out of my week to see what’s been going on there. I watched Sarah Palin’s speech Wednesday night. I had every intention of watching John McCain last night.

But I lost all intention when they did that tribute/memorial to the victims of 9/11. Sorry, folks, that just downright pissed me off.

When are the Republicans going to stop using 9/11 as a call to arms? When are they going to quit using our deepest, most base fears to manipulate our emotions? I couldn’t watch much beyond that point. I felt nauseated and angry.

What really pissed me off the most? The Republican party is using this attack on our country — one that their President was warned about and could have prevented but chose to ignore — to try to gain votes. Sorry, folks. 9/11 happened on your watch, it could have been prevented, but you turned your heads and let it happen.

The Republicans are trying to distance themselves from Bush because he did not bring about the "change" they had hoped for. I can’t help but wonder, what change was that? Exactly what change are you looking for? Is it the change that your dominionist/evangelical base wants? You know, the one that is extremist and (I believe dangerous) that turns our country into a so-called Christian nation? Are you catering to the Christian-Taliban segments in your party to get your votes because if you do, they will have what they want and you can go on running our country into the ground? This is very dangerous for the life of our country and our people.

I don’t believe a single, solitary one of the politicians who say they are religious and pray to God. It is lip service for most of them, but nothing more. Very few of them follow the teachings of the Christ, who was a wise teacher and taught of peace, fairness, caring for your brother and turning the other cheek. He taught us not to judge one another and forgiveness. It seems to me that the Republican base, the evengelicals, Zionists and Dominionists are more interested in Old Testament law, the law that the Jewish and Muslim religions practice, the ones Christians supposedly despise.

We are walking on dangerously thin ice in this election with both parties going after the extremist vote on the right instead of the moderate vote where the majority of us dwell.

I give kudos to Keith Olbermann who, last night after the 9/11 memorial, was sickened and distanced himself from it as he could barely control his anger.

Peace,
Amy
