Semper Fi Photo Studio Photography Event

Soul Studios Hollywood will host a photo gallery in late November, called Semper Fi Photo to benefit The Wounded Warrior Regiment, Battalion West. Hollywood, California

Semper Fi Photo is the first foray by any photo studio in the industry to make their mark on the community by holding their own photography event of which all of the proceeds will go to charity. The event will be a gallery of photos of combat wounded USMC troops, along with a short film of a behind the scenes look at the project, directed by Jason Willheim.  Director of Photography is David Starks.

The photos and film are to raise awareness of the needs of troops returning from combat. The proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Regiment, Battalion West at Camp Pendleton, CA.

The mission of the Wounded Warrior Regiment is to assist in the recovery and rehabilitation process for wounded soldiers. WWR offers insight and leadership to facilitate the transition for soldiers after returning from battle.

The Producer of the event is Shell Bilyew, a partner in Soul Studios with Anthony Tamayo and Gabriel Guzman. Shell has a history within the photo community of being known for her excellent relations with clients. She has pulled together a team of digital companies, film crew, locations and vendors for this remarkable task, and an impressive array of photographers, including, Art Streiber, Jason Willheim, Jack Guy, Brian Bowen Smith, Alex de la Hidalga, Robin Perine and Steven Khan.

Each photographer will lend a range of elements to the project, being that they are given total creative license. The photographer will make their selects of photos along with Shell; this will create a very diverse show. The purpose is to enable each viewer with insight into the subject matter via the photographer’s vision.

Photos can be delightful, horrifying, disgusting, pleasurable or otherwise; the photos should elicit responses that will create an alliance between the viewer and the photograph. With this association, it gives the individual a glimpse of another world of which they may never have known.

This project came out of the experience and connections that Soul Studios has within the photo industry. The Producer, Shell Bilyew said, “I started thinking about what we could do with our contacts as a whole, within our environment, to promote social change that would benefit one community or organization at a time.“

The Wounded Warrior Regiment was chosen as the beneficiary because of the 25+ years of service by her brother in the Marine Corp and because her cousin served in the First Marine Division that was deployed to Iraq. She continued on, “This is just the beginning of this type project for us, our mission is to create an annual event centered around the photo industry to benefit a variety of charitable organizations.” We hope to be an industry leader and inspire other studios to do likewise.
