HISTORIC VETERANS REVOLUTION:  The “Invasion of Brentwood”

by Robert L. Rosebrock

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens  can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has. – Magraget Meade

Since the beginning of time, revolutions have defined and shaped mankind. Lest we’ve forgotten, our great nation was founded upon a revolution and President Dwight D. Eisenhower reminded us that “Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels — men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine.”

The “American Revolution”
Webster’s Dictionary defines revolution as “a sudden, radical or complete change in a situation.” Fortunately, some revolutions are good, but unfortunately, some are bad.

As we know, a revolution changed a bad situation into a good one more than two hundred thirty-two years ago when the greedy and self-serving actions of a British lord ignited the American Revolution and unified the honest, hard-working and patriotic citizens of Thirteen American Colonies to fight for their freedom and independence.

“Declaration of Independence”
America built its foundation with the Declaration of Independence that established a sudden and radical change of life from an oppressive rule under a dictatorial king to individual freedom. Later, our U.S. Constitution and “Bill of Rights” set forth guiding principles for these independent individuals to live together in united freedom.

It’s important to remember that the Declaration of Independence was just another document on parchment paper until it was fought for and defended through eight hard years of the “Revolutionary War.”

Though many lives were sacrificed, this was a good revolution because Americans have been the benefactors of unparalleled freedom, thanks to those who pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor in our behalf.

From Good to Bad
History has taught us that a revolution can also change a good situation into a bad one, such as when the privacy and quietude of the Los Angeles National Veterans Home radically changed into a disruptive invasion of greedy and self-serving community and business lords.

For over a century, there was an unwritten code of patriotism and morality that every generation of American citizens responsibly upheld, which was to protect and preserve the 388 acres of Veterans sacred land in West Los Angeles.

These loyal citizens respected and appreciated the sacrifices made on their behalf and subsequently guarded this land just as it was patriotically granted in 1888, to be permanently maintained as a National Home for America’s Military Veterans to convalesce and rehabilitate from defending our country‘s freedom.

The “Land-Grab Revolution”
More than 20 years ago, under the reign of dictatorial politicians, shameless bureaucrats and greedy business and community leaders, a “Land-Grab Revolution” brought forth a sudden and radical change from the patriotic and moral responsibilities that had been in place, causing this hallowed land to be negotiated away with commercial and special interest wheeling and dealing, sometimes rent free, and always with the blessing of our elected public servants and the bureaucrats at the Greater West Los Angeles VA Healthcare System.

Heretofore, every generation respected this land as a safe haven of peace and tranquility for America’s Veterans to heal from defending our freedom and democracy. Now, those who have benefited like no other generation from these heroic sacrifices want to use this hallowed land for their own selfish amusement and entertainment.  And they do it audaciously and irreverently under the guise of "honoring our veterans."

The “Land-Grab Revolution” began in the 20th century when the Deed of 1888 was subverted from historically honoring America’s Veterans and their property to dishonoring America’s Veterans and their property. This was a radical revolution that brought about complete change in how our citizenry treated Veterans.

An Overthrow of the Sanctity of Veterans Land
For the past two decades, deceptive and disingenuous politicians, deal-making VA bureaucrats and self-serving community leaders have overthrown the sanctity of the hallowed land at the Veterans Home and used commercial leases and sharing agreements to benefit selected businesses and entertainment companies, a wealthy private school and other ill-gotten uses for the general public to occupy as amusement and entertaining events, and always at the tragic expense of America’s Veterans.
Over the years, it became an accepted doctrine that the Deed of 1888 would not be honored and this sacred land would be prostituted to the highest or lowest bidder, depending on the political favors being negotiated.

Billion-Dollar Land Heist
Ms. Susan B. Young, executive director of Veterans Park Conservancy, which is not a Veterans organization but a special interest homeowners group, explained in the November 2007 issue of the “Brentwood News” how she essentially expropriated 16 acres of Veterans land valued at nearly one-billion dollars for a public community park, “rent free,” by declaring: "Because this arrangement was unprecedented, it required lengthy discussions and compromises with Veterans Administration in Los Angeles and Washington. The agreement also called for approvals at the highest levels, i.e., Secretary Nicholson, and the involvement of the Congressional delegation."
Think about it, we have the highest levels of America’s government stooping to a new low by facilitating the greatest land heist since the Native American Indians were given $24 in beads and trinkets for Manhattan. At least they got “something” for their land while America’s Military Veterans will get nothing but a noisy invasion of a disrespectful society using their property for fun and games.

The “Veterans Revolution”
What to do? As President Eisenhower reminded us, we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels — men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine.

Now enter the “Veterans Revolution,” a unification of independent Veterans, Veterans advocacy groups and Veterans Service Organization rallying together to peacefully overthrow the disgraceful, underhanded shenanigans of politicians, VA bureaucrats and self-serving community organizations that have worked shamelessly behind closed doors to steal away Veterans Home Land.

The “Declaration of Enforcement”
An independent Veterans advocacy group, We the Veterans, took the initiative to restore and honor the Deed of 1888 just as it was patriotically granted. Looking back to the founding of our nation, these Veterans knew that a written document must be the guiding force behind their cause.

Thus, the Declaration of Enforcement was written to become an Amendment to the Deed of 1888. Just as the “Bill of Rights” was made an Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as the guiding doctrine for America’s homeland, the Declaration of Enforcement will be the guiding doctrine for the Veterans Home Land.

The sole purpose of the Declaration of Enforcement is to establish and reconfirm the fact that the land at the National Veterans Home comes not from today’s politicians, VA bureaucrats or community leaders, but was patriotically given by two benevolent individuals more than 120 years ago.

Back then a U.S. Senator from Nevada named John Percival Jones and a local community resident named Arcadia de Baker unselfishly gave their valuable land for the sole benefit of America’s Military Veterans.

Today, there are U.S. Senators and Congress members from California and local community residents taking this very land for their own selfish benefit at the expense and sacrifice of America’s Military Veterans.

Join the Veterans Revolution
Know this; the dark days of greed and corruption are coming to an end as we embark upon a new dawn for America’s Military Veterans. You are respectfully requested to join the Veterans Revolution as we make a radical and complete change from a bad situation into a good one to honor and serve today’s fellow Veterans while ensuring that future generations of America’s Veterans will always have a permanent and safe haven to call “Home.”

The “Invasion of Brentwood”
This is the largest VA Healthcare Center in the nation with more than one million Veterans living within 50 miles and we must show our support to preserve, protect and defend this hallowed land for today’s Veterans and future generations of Veterans.
On Sunday, October 5th, we will celebrate our 30th consecutive Sunday Rally of the Veterans Revolution with the history-making “Brentwood Invasion.”

We will be united with a surge of fellow Veterans and friends of Veterans from all over Southern California, including members of The California American Legion, The California Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American G.I. Forum of California, The National Veterans Coalition, The Gathering of Eagles, and community and business supporters.

Just as June 6, 1944 will always be remembered as the victorious military "Invasion of Normandy," October 5, 2008 will always be remembered as the victorious Veteran "invasion of Brentwood."

Become a part of history and join the Veterans Revolution – Sunday, 12:00 – 4:00 PM

Then join hand in hand,
brave Americans all!
By uniting we stand,
by dividing we fall.
– John Dickinson
