DC’S GODLESS CYNICS USE FEAR AND HATE TO BUILD

AN AMERICAN TALIBAN

by Gordon Duff STAFF WRITER

Politics is really the oldest profession, followed by prostition and religion.  All this probably happened in about an hour and a half, as anyone looking at Washington D.C knows.  You can’t have one without all three.

It is hard to tell what the oldest recorded "deal" with God was.  We have two versions:

1. Moses came down from the mount with the ten commandments on a stone tablet.  This was not the message the Israelites wanted to hear.  Moses had a "tough sell."

2. The Greeks negotiated with their Gods.  The end result:  sacrifice a lamb, the Greeks get all the meat, the Gods get the hooves and guts.  Selling this one was easier.

Since that time, politicians have worked on the "Greek model."  God usually tells people to kill their neighbors and take his stuff.  We call these people "chickenhawks."  They get other people to do the killing but they get to keep the stuff.

Early on, politicians began telling people they were "descended" from the Gods.  This started with the Egyptian pharaohs, went on thru Louis XIV, the "Sun King," and has held true thru today.  Whether it is a Mullah, Pope, TV preacher or bible thumping, cigar chompin’ "bathroom bandit," the word of God is the same:  GOD WANTS YOU TO DO AS I SAY, EVEN IF IT SEEMS EVIL, IMMORAL OR DISGUSTING.  WITHOUT FAITH AND OBEDIENCE, YOU WILL SUFFER DAMNATION ETERNAL.  THUS, POLITICIANS ARE PURVEYORS OF "REVERSE THEOLOGY," MAKING GOD IN THEIR OWN IMAGE.

In this century, political religions, Communism, Fascism, Neo-Conservatism combined with Islamic, Jewish, Catholic and Protestant extremism have killed a 100 million people or more.  Add to that dozens of smaller religions that drive people to pick up machetes and chop up hundreds of thousands of their neighbors and that mixture of "politics and belief" takes on a sinister aspect.

1700 years ago, Christians cut a deal with a Roman emperor named Constantine.  He needed a new religion to help hold the Roman Empire together and they needed to make him stop murdering them by the thousands.  Christianity became "less Christian" and more "Roman" and Constantine put together a version of Christianity that he could sell to his pagan buddies, just like the old religion with just a "whiff of Jesus" to sell it to the poor.

Constantine almost had himself made pope.  Instead, he made sure he pulled the strings.  Any Christian that didn’t like the "hybrid" was a heretic and was hunted down by the Roman army, then by the Spanish Inquisition.  Millions of Christians were killed by Romanized Christianity.  Jews by the tens of thousands were murdered almost as a ritual holiday for centuries. The Nazis were only doing what so many other groups had done before them.  Now Christians claim that the Nazis were "occultists" and not Christians at all, although many prominent Nazi leaders were, not only Catholics, but had attended seminaries.  The Church stood hand in hand with the Nazis until the Americans conquered Rome.

America’s founding fathers lived in a world of theocratic monarchies.  Even our first Puritan settlers came to the New World, not only to escape religious persecution but to set up their own system of persecution, killing Indians, burning witches, banning Catholics and Jews, perhaps even worse than the one they escaped.  Church attendence was mandatory and enforced militarily.  Jefferson and Franklin, witnessing this abuse saw to it that we became a republic with a total separation of church and state.

No matter how much today’s political world is tainted by religious rhetoric and pontification, Washington has proven to all but the most blind, the most dogmatic, that everything is money, money and more money with a smattering of dirty sex.  With millions of Americans belonging to churches bordering on "Taliban" values, advocating bombing of family planning facilities, forced marriages for little girls, sex with children, banning books, promoting political assassination and "creationism" fairly tales  (Palin’s Jurassic Alaska), pandering to this large and devoted "idiot fringe" is a major industry for PR firms.

Turning womanizing, hard drinking, foul mouthed John McCain into a "bible thumping" joke has nearly destroyed his political career.  Most of us liked him the other way.  We were hoping "Krazy John" would get out there and "kick some ass," not arrange prayer breakfasts.  Now a woman has to wear the pants McCain gave up.

Maybe America has become more religious under Bush, especially in the traditional "witch burning" sense.  Islam claims we are crusaders, invading their territory, stealing everything that isn’t nailed down.  The Gonzales Justice Department and the Spanish Inquistion functioned with similar methods and values.  Both depended on torture and operated above any law.  Faith and political "majik" have made a thousand years of progress disappear in the blink of an eye.

As with ancient Rome, modern "faith based" political groups have turned out to be little more than tyrants and frauds, bent on self enrichment and the perversions of power.  Religious oligarchy has always been the most brutal.  Faith in the invisible has long been the motis used to drive men to unspeakable acts.  There is seldom an act of evil in this world, be it a serial killer operating in the shadows or genocide on a continent-wide scale, that isn’t an interpretation of "God’s Will" as seen by man seeking dominion over man.

2000 years of history is one story told a hundred ways in a thousand places.  20th century religion has become war, killing and brutality, all in the name of unseen ideals, ever changing, ever distorting into phantasms more and more malign.  Banks, corporate boardrooms and the halls of government are the private chapels where the elite gather in reverence.  Gordon Duff, Senior Staff Writer for VetransToday.com
