By now, we’ve all seen the John McCain campaign ads on TV. The stoic gentleman with his head held high. A war veteran and a former POW. With this in mind, one would assume the Senator from Arizona, running for U.S. President would take care of the vets. However, a review of his voting record shows quite the contrary.

Did you know: He voted NO on Additional Funding For Veterans Amendment which states, "S Amdt 2634 to S 2020: To provide an additional $500,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2006 through 2010, to be used for readjustment counseling, related mental health services, and treatment and rehabilitative services for veterans with mental illness, post-traumatic stress disorder, or substance use disorder."

He voted NO on Health Care for Veterans Amendment which states, "S Amdt 1937 to HR 2863: To ensure that future funding for health care for former members of the Armed Forces takes into account changes in population and inflation."
McCain voted NO on Tax Rate Extension Amendment which reads, "S Amdt 2735 to S Amdt 2707 to HR 4297: To support the health needs of our veterans and military personnel and reduce the deficit by making tax rates fairer for all Americans."

He voted NO on Military Funding and Tax Cuts Amendment which says, "S Amdt 2737 to S Amdt 2707 to HR 4297: To strengthen America’s military, to repeal the extension of tax rates for capital gains and dividends, to reduce the deficit, and for other purposes".

And he voted NO for Expressing Support for All Men and Women in the U.S. Armed Forces which states, "Vote to adopt an amendment that opposes comments that criticize the honor, integrity, and patriotism of individuals serving or having served honorably in the United States Armed Forces."

He also voted NO on State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Reauthorization which states, "HR 976: A bill to amend title XXI of the Social Security Act to reauthorize the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, and for other purposes."

He voted NO on Hurricane Victims Tax Benefit Amendment which says "S Amdt 2602 to S 2020: To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide tax benefits for areas affected by Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma and to extend certain expiring provisions, and for other purposes."

He voted NO on Family Tax Relief Amendment which states, "S AMDT 527 to S 949: To provide tax relief for working families, to increase the rate and spread the benefits of economic growth, and for other purposes."

McCain voted NO on Employment Nondiscrimination Act of 1996 which states, "Vote to pass a bill that extends the federal protections provided under the Civil Rights Act to sexual orientation. "S 2056: A bill to prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

He voted NO on Native American Funding Amendment which states, "S AMDT 211 to S Con Res 18: To restore funding for tribal programs and provide necessary additional funding based on recommendations from Indian country."

He voted NO on Union Organization Bill which reads, "HR 800: To amend the National Labor Relations Act to establish an efficient system to enable employees to form, join, or assist labor organizations, to provide for mandatory injunctions for unfair labor practices during organizing efforts, and for other purposes."

And finally, McCain voted NO on Hate Crimes Bill which reads, "S 625: A bill to provide Federal assistance to States and local jurisdictions to prosecute hate crimes, and for other purposes. Vote on a motion to invoke cloture on a bill that would allow the Federal government to assist State and local government when prosecuting hate crimes."

A website called www.votesmart.org provided the information for this report. Good luck. And see you at the polls in November.
