Republican snubs middle class, vets, unified U.S.
McCain Not My McChoice
by Steven Stottlemyre, U.S. Army Veteran
It was only a few years ago that I thought Sen. John McCain could have been an acceptable choice for president of the United States. That time has passed.
I grew up in a middle-class family, in a middle-class neighborhood in suburban Detroit. My childhood was good and fairly carefree. But since the time I left for the Army, my old neighborhood has been suffering.
Houses are in foreclosure, jobs are lost and possibly gone forever because of the free trade initiatives supported by John McCain in the 1980s and ’90s. A gallon of gas or milk costs more than an hour of minimum-wage work.
This is not an economic downturn. The fundamentals of our economy are not as strong as Sen. McCain would have us believe. This is the product of a decade of special interests in the White House (1980s) followed by a decade of special interests in the Congress (1990s).
Sen. McCain’s voting record speaks for itself. He does not support our middle class, he does not support our veterans, and he does not support a unified United States of America.
Shame on him, and shame on us for entertaining the idea of a President McCain.
