“Dot-Mil-Docs” Spotlights Wounded Warriors during November

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – “Dot-Mil-Docs” has dedicated shows airing in November to wounded warriors throughout Warrior Care Month. Thursday, November 6, we kick the month off with Lt. Col. Sean Mattingly, Operations Officer for the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment (WWR). The WWR provides and facilitates assistance and support to wounded, injured and ill Marines and their families.

Upcoming show topics and guests in November include:

    * 11/13 – Lt. Gen. Eric B. Schoomaker, Army Surgeon General, will discuss current Army initiatives to care for wounded, ill and injured warriors as well as their family members. Lt. Gen. Schoomaker will help dissect what soldiers need to know to get the care they need and deserve after an injury has occurred.
    * 11/20 – John Beckett, the Air Force Warrior and Survivor Care Program Manager, will detail how the Air Force provides personalized care as a result of severe illness or injuries with Community Readiness Consultants, benefit counseling, enhanced transitional services and centralized case management.

With thousands of downloads it is evident that the “Dot-Mil-Docs” audience is growing. “Dot-Mil-Docs” first aired on May 1, 2008 with the goal of providing insight into the Military Health System (MHS) and the various agencies, programs and departments it includes. Each episode provides information that beneficiaries can actually use in their daily lives. “Dot-Mil-Docs” also presents details about MHS resources listeners may not know about.

Dr. Molly Klote, a researcher at the Allergy-Immunology Department of Walter Reed Army Medical Center talked about the work that she and fellow military docs are doing in Iraq.

10/16 – Episode 25: MHS Support for New Parents
Dr. Betsy Weaver, President of DoD’s “The Parent Review” explained the value of the eCareConnect program, an e-mail based service that helps DoD hospitals connect with expectant and new families.

10/23 – Episode 26: MHS Website Helps Families of Deployed Service Members
Dr. Craig Postlewaite, Senior Environmental Health Analyst and Dr. Randy Eltringham, Under Secretary of Defense for Military Community & Family Policy discussed the Deployment Health and Family readiness Library.

10/27 – Episode 27: Sexual Assault Awareness in the Military
Dr. Kaye Whitley, Director of the Sexual Assault and Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO), discussed her team’s efforts to improve prevention of sexual assault.
