DVA Secretary Peake to Review VETNET Concept
by Jere Beery
Yesterday, during a visit and press conference held at Canandaigua VA Medical Center in Canandaigua, New York, Operation Firing For Effect National Chairman, Gene Simes presented DVA Secretary James Peake with a detailed proposal package on a revolutionary concept called VETNET.
Secretary Peake was in Canandaigua to review and comment on the VA’s national suicide hotline, headquartered in Canandaigua.
VETNET is a cable television concept devoted to providing healthcare maintenance and hygiene, nutritional information, and medication warnings directly to the disabled and elderly in the privacy in their own home.
VETNET was originally created by veterans advocate Jere Beery in the late 80s. In 1991, Mr. Jere Beery submitted an early version of the VETNET concept to then Georgia Congressman, Newt Gingrich, who in turn, forwarded Mr. Beery’s concept paper to Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Edward Derwinski for review.

Although the concept was well received, and promises were made to follow up, the VETNET proposal died a quiet death somewhere within the DVA. VETNET has remained dormant for the past 17 years.
Now, Operation Firing For Effect has revived and refined the concept for the twenty first century. (View VETNET concept and letters at: http://jerebeery.com/vetnet1.htm)

Secretary Peake is merely the latest government official to receive the VETNET concept. President elect Barack Obama, Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, Obama Staff Member, Eric Persons, Mr. Willie Nelson, Mr. Charlie Daniels, Senator Hilary Clinton, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, Senator Charles Schumer, Former Senator Max Cleland, and New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio have all received a copy of the VETNET proposal.
