Third Annual GI Film Festival Announces Call for Entries
 
Award-winning Festival Seeks Films That Honor American GIs

 
Arlington, Virginia – The GI Film Festival is currently seeking film submissions for its third annual event, to be held Armed Forces Weekend, May 13-17, 2009, at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, DC.  Filmmakers are encouraged to submit any film that, in some way, honors the successes and sacrifices of American GIs from the Revolutionary War through the War in Iraq and the worldwide struggle for freedom and liberty.
 
Overall, the GI Film Festival will present awards for the top films in five main categories:  Narrative Feature, Feature Documentary, Narrative Short, Documentary Short and Student Film.  All film submissions will be processed by Withoutabox.com, a film submission consultant to more than 2,600 film festivals worldwide.  Please visit www.gifilmfestival.com for submission details. 
 
With respect to GI Film Festival 2008, the program was truly first-rate, featuring classic and premier film screenings, musical performances, panel discussions and receptions.  VIP participants included:  Robert Duvall, Gary Sinise, Karri Turner, LeeannTweeden, Stephen Baldwin, John Ratzenberger, Gil Gerard, James McEachin, Dale Dye, WWE Superstar Mr. Kennedy, WWE legend Ric Flair, General George Casey, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, General Jack Stultz, Chief of the US Army Reserve BG Loree Sutton, Medal of Honor recipient Col. Bud Day, Rep. Howard Coble, Rep. John Dingle, Rep. John Salazar.     Overall, the GI Film Festival has earned international press coverage from NBC, CBS, FOX, The Associated Press, The Washington Post, and Variety, to name a few media outlets.  The Pentagon Channel also covered the festival for the 2.6 million members of the U.S. Armed Forces around the world.  Media partners also include The History Channel, the Discovery Channel, Weider History Group, WUSA-9, WMAL, The Washington Times, and The Hill newspaper.
 
With respect to filmmaker success stories, one GI Film Festival premier, "Operation Homecoming," was a finalist for an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary in 2007, while at least one GI Film Festival 2008 award-winner found a major independent distributor and will be released theatrically in 2009.
