Vietnam disentombs U.S. Government lie about underground POW prison in Hanoi.  During the 1991-92 Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs investigation, Select Committee investigators determined that the Vietnamese were operating a "top secret" prison compound beneath Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum in northwest Hanoi.

The underground prison (referred to by eyewitnesses reports found by the investigators in secret Defense Intelligence Agency, DIA files) is located directly below where committee co-chairman Sen. John Kerry stood when he visited Ho Chi Minh’s tomb in April 1992.

Access to the underground prison is gained from within an adjacent top secret military compound known as the Citadel. The Citadel is strictly off limits to outsiders. It is considered the Vietnamese equivalent of our Pentagon.

During Select Committee sworn testimony, committee co-chairman Sen. Bob Smith questioned DIA representatives about six specific reports, which were culled from DIA’s files, that referred to the underground prison system.

"There is no credible evidence [that] such a prison ever existed," then DIA chief analyst Robert DeStatte told the committee under oath.

When pressed by Sen. Smith , DeStatte admitted that no American officials investigating the POW issue had ever been allowed in the Citadel. He insisted that it was impossible for such a prison system to exist because Hanoi’s water table is too high. He said any such underground facility would be impossible to build because it would quickly flood.

Vietnamese officials responded saying press reports about the underground prison were "funny."
