As the anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq arrives this Friday, it marks the first time in the history of the six-year conflict that an estimated end date is in sight. The majority of the 142,000 U.S. soldiers currently in Iraq are expected to be withdrawn by the summer of 2010, with a reserve of 35,000 to 40,000 being withdrawn in 2011.
With unemployment numbers increasing daily and the economy in dire condition, employers should prepare for the upcoming influx of citizen soldiers and educate themselves on the legal rights they are entitled to under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
Nationally recognized USERRA attorney, Iraq War veteran, and New York Army National Guard Major Mathew B. Tully, Esq. is available for analysis and commentary on the anticipated troop return and what it means for employers and businesses. After experiencing discrimination for his military service from his own employer, Tully has since dedicated his legal career to the protection and preservation of the rights of veterans and reservists. Tully is also available to reflect on his own return from active duty in Iraq and the challenges servicemembers face when returning to civilian life.
Tully is available via phone or in person at the firm’s downtown Washington, DC office or in-studio at your convenience.
For more information or to speak with Tully, please contact Caitlin Merrill at 202-787-1900 or via email at cmerrill@tullylegal.com.
