Fort Jackson welcomes all retired military

FORT JACKSON, S.C. — A South Carolina Army post is honoring military retirees from all service branches with two days of events designed to celebrate their service and improve their health.

Officials at Fort Jackson, located outside Columbia, say there are 36,000 military retirees in the region eligible to attend.

On Friday and Saturday, the retirees will be offered health screenings by staff from Moncrief (MAHN’-creef) Army Community Hospital.

Representatives of the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Defense Department’s financial services division will also be on hand for discussions.

Celebrations include a military parade, golf and bowling tournaments and a special dinner at the noncommissioned officers club
