Washington-Six law suits have been filed this week out of concerns that garbage that was burned at US military bases where contractor KBR and the former parent company Halliburton have caused health problems and death to those exposed to toxic fumes.

The open burn pits were used to burn combined materials such as plastics, and medical waste, that were set fire by using jet fuel as an accelerant causing plumes of acrid black smoke of toxic fumes that were reported to have caused chest pains, diarrhea, asthma, sleep apnea, and migraines.

KBR denies knowingly harming soldiers or contactors in a statement in response to the series of suits already filed and others that are assumed to follow in several days by other claimants.

US military officials have conducted their own investigation of the allegations and say there were no serious health risks evident at burn pits at Balad Air Force Base.
