Two Marines dead in San Diego County helicopter crash

A Marine Super Cobra helicopter crashed Tuesday night in rural eastern San Diego County, killing two pilots aboard, the Marine Corps said today.

The helicopter was stationed at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego. It crashed north of Interstate 8 at Kitchen Creek Road in the Cleveland National Forest. The crash is being investigated by military officials.

The helicopter was part of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit training for a six-month deployment in the western Pacific.
