Washington, D.C. — Mothers who lost children in some of this country’s current conflicts will share memories of those children during the 10th annual Mother’s Day Ceremony at The Wall, being held on Sunday, May 10, at 9 a.m.

Members of the American Gold Star Mothers Inc., an organization of mothers who have lost a son or daughter in the service of our country, will say their child’s name at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and share a remembrance or Mother’s Day story. The mothers in attendance have lost children in this country’s current conflicts. Memorial Fund President Jan C. Scruggs will also offer remarks. |

The Mother’s Day Ceremony at The Wall is a 10-year tradition of honoring mothers who have children serving in the armed forces or lost their children in war. This year, the mothers will be given roses and Mother’s Day cards, hand made by schoolchildren from around the country. After the ceremony, the mothers will leave the cards at The Wall. Cards have been provided by these schools:

| Why: | The Mother’s Day at The Wall ceremony honors these women whose lives are forever changed due to war. It also pays tribute to their children, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. |
Established in 1979, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is the nonprofit organization authorized by Congress to build the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Today, the Memorial Fund is an international nongovernmental organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of The Wall, promoting healing and educating about the impact of the Vietnam War. Its initiatives include educational programs for students and educators, a traveling Wall replica that honors our nation’s veterans and a humanitarian and mine-action program in Vietnam. The Memorial Fund is also building the Education Center at The Wall, an underground educational facility near The Wall.
