Women play essential roles in our society. Their natural love, patience and perseverance are incomparable and truly enormous for their loved ones and this country. The big number of women in the military is indeed, one clear proof of their undying service to sworn duty for us to have a peaceful life.
To provide better service to the women, the Department of Veterans Affairs has created the Center for Women Veterans under the office of the secretary. It was established in November 2004 with a mission to review programs of VA and services for women veterans, and guarantee that military women receive services and benefits on a par with male veterans, meet no discrimination in their attempt to access them, and are treated with the respect, dignity, and understanding by providers of VA services.
At present, Irene Trowell-Harris, RN, Ed.D is the director of Center for Women Veterans. The services offered by this agency includes an extensive range of medical benefits such as :
– primary care
– acute medical/surgical
– telephone triage
– health promotion and disease prevention
– women’s gender-specific health care
– emergency and substance abuse treatment
– mental health
– domiciliary
– rehabilitation
– long term care
