Veterans are being invited to the annual “No-Cost Combined Veterans Job and Resource Fair, Homeless and Veteran Stand Down,” scheduled 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 28 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 801 Grand Ave., San Luis Obispo.San Luis Obispo County has approximately 26,000 veterans. The event will also be open to the general public.
Organizers hope to inform veterans and the public about special employment opportunities and unique services provided by surrounding communities, according to Milt Batson of the Employment Development Department.
May has been proclaimed "National Military Appreciation Month," Batson noted.
Batson said the event has three components:
**The job and resource fair, providing employment opportunities and service provider needs-based services;
**The homeless veterans stand down; and
**Community homeless services components, “to help homeless veterans and others break the homeless cycle.”
Batson suggested that veterans bring identification and their DD 214, if available.
