Passing-Veteran, Legion leader Peter Zebrowski, worked to serve others

After his service, he began work with an electrical company full-time. When he traveled with his company to help restore power to Upstate New York after a snowstorm, he didn’t know he’d meet his future wife.

"He was with the company, and they came into the restaurant where I worked," Teller said. "We met, and that was that."

Living in New York, Zebrowski spent nine years as a volunteer firefighter on Long Island. He was active in the American Legion in New York, his wife said, but his leadership abilities came to light in South Carolina.

"He started the honor guard up in Greenville when we lived there," Teller said. "Making sure the POWs and MIAs got the recognition they deserved was always one of his biggest goals."

When Zebrowski moved to Little River, there was no American Legion post there. After helping form it, Zebrowski became its second commander and under his leadership the post built its own building, his wife said.

Had he lived until next year, his wife said, he was already selected to be the commander for the entire state.

Even his favorite hobbies were shared with the group.

"He played a lot of golf with the Legion people," Teller said.

She said he will be missed by the entire area.

"He was always very thoughtful, very considerate with other people, adored the kids and grandkids," Teller said. "He was just a great man."
