Woody’s Home for Veterans, a Shreveport-based residential outreach for mentally ill and homeless military veterans, will hold a motorcycle rally fundraiser this weekend.

The home’s second annual event is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Lowe-McFarlane American Legion Post 14, 5315 S. Lakeshore Drive, on Cross Lake, in Shreveport.

Sponsors are the Veterans of Vietnam Motorcycle Club and the Legion Riders.

Events slated so far include bike and car shows, games, a poker run, a silent auction and musical performances. There also will be food and beverages for sale.

Registration is $20 in advance, $25 at the event. Admission is by donation, free for those under age 12 when accompanied by an adult.

Dr. Ron Key, who founded the homes in Shreveport’s Highland neighborhood in memory of his late father, Woodrow "Woody" Key, said he expects as many as 500 motorcyclists to take part in the event.

The original Woody’s Home, 442 Jordan St. in Shreveport, was renovated in 2003 and opened in early 2004. It houses eight residents. A second is at 448 Jordan St. A third house is envisioned for an adjacent lot.
