Senate Appropriations (2 p.m.): Homeland Security Subcommittee meets to markup the FY2010 Homeland Security appropriations bill. 192 Dirksen.

Senate Armed Services (3 p.m.): Readiness and Management Support Subcommittee holds a hearing on the Defense Authorization request for FY2010 and the Future Years Defense Program for military construction, environmental, and base closure programs. B.J. Penn, assistant secretary of the Navy for installations and environment; Kathleen Ferguson, deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force for installations; Joseph Calcara, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for installations and housing; and Wayne Arny, deputy undersecretary of defense for installations and environment, will testify. 222 Russell.

     

The House meets at 10:00 a.m. for legislative business and will resume consideration of H.R. 2847, the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2010. Procedural votes are expected throughout the day.

House Foreign Affairs (10 a.m.): Asia, the Pacific and the Global Environment Subcommittee and Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade Subcommittee hold a joint hearing on “North Korea’s Nuclear and Missile Tests and the Six-Party Talks: Where Do We Go from Here?” Selig Harrison, director of the Center for International Policy’S Asia Program; Thomas Hubbard, senior director of McLarty Associates, former ambassador to the Republics of Korea, the Philippines and Palau; Scott Snyder, director of the Center for U.S.-Korea Policy, senior associate for international relations at the Asia Foundation; Richard Bush III, director of the Center for Northeast Asian Policy Studies, and senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and former national intelligence officer for East Asia, will testify. 2172 Rayburn.

House Energy and Commerce (10 a.m.): Meets to markup H.R.2749, the “Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009.” 2123 Rayburn.

House Foreign Affairs (3 p.m.): International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight Subcommittee holds a hearing on “TV Marti: A Station in Search of an Audience.” TV Marit consists of U.S. sponsored broadcasts of news and information to the people of Cuba via shortwave, AM, and the Internet. Jess Ford, director of the International Affairs and Trade Team at the Government Accountability Office; John Nichols, professor of communications and international affairs at Penn State University; and Philip Peters, vice president of the Lexington Institute, will testify. 2172 Rayburn.
