Farr Unveils New Mobile Vet Center

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Sam Farr (D-Carmel) on June 22 helped unveil the new Vet Center Community Outreach Vehicle, to be based at the Santa Cruz County Vet Center in Capitola. Rep. Farr was joined by VA and DoD officials at the event, which will took place at 10 a.m. at the Stillwell Community Center Parking Lot. The unveiling was followed by a tour of the mobile vet center and a VA services open house.      

The new mobile vet center, funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will travel throughout Central California, from north of San Francisco south to San Luis Obispo. The state-of-the-art vehicle will visit communities throughout the region and will be staffed by a social worker, an outreach specialist to assist with VA claims and a counselor.

During the event, officials spoke about the mobile vet center, VA outreach services and local suicide prevention programs. The services fair following the unveiling will also featured the Mobile Medical Center as well as VA staff to who can assist with mental health services, domiciliary service, suicide prevention, and VA compensation and health benefits.
