For the third time in our city, Korean War Veterans from across the country were honored in Las Vegas Sunday night. And News 3’s Tiffany DeLeon reports that while some may call it the "forgotten war", these veterans are determined never to forget. While more than 900 people from all over the country came to Las Vegas for this event, 300 to 400 are Korean War Veterans proud to display their medals and ribbons. 77-year-old Walter Ade served in a war that many people refer to as the "forgotten war."

"You listen to officials speak (and) skip from Word War I to Vietnam. They are all so dumb; they don’t remember that some 50,000 Americans died in Korea. That’s a war."

Ade not only served in the Korean War, he was honored.

"I’m one of the few distinguished riflemen. When I was there, we came in from – now, you can’t imagine. It’s amazing what this country made themselves out of."

And it’s that turnaround, from a torn-down country to one of the top ten economies, that has these veterans gathering to celebrate.

"People meet you on the street, shake your hand, and thank you for keeping the country free," says Ade.

Charles Kim helped coordinate the event; even though it was difficult to raise funds, he says with the help of the Korean Bank, they were able to make it a lavish affair.

"We love them; we appreciate what they have done and sacrificed by losing their lives," says Kim of the veterans. "So much suffering after suffering. I was born in Korea and I wonder how this country came out of all these ashes."

Next year, they hope to make this event even bigger, as they will be celebrating the sixtieth anniversary.
