12 boats full of hopeful veterans set sail on Lake Superior Monday during the 17th annual "Veterans on Lake Superior" charter fishing day.

Strong winds and cooler temperatures made the fish harder to come by as LeAnn Wallace reports in this week’s "Nature Matters."

More than 50 veterans tried their luck in catching something tasty to eat for lunch.

"Are you having any luck today fishing? Any luck? Is it luck that does it? I don’t think so."

The veterans on board the various boats reside in three different vet homes from across Minnesota.

John Chuk lives in Silver Bay’s Veteran’s home and says not giving up is the key in reeling in something big.

"You have to be persistent."

"Keep reeling, don’t stop, don’t give this sucker a chance…"

But as most anglers know, sometimes the fish are the ones that get lucky.

"Oh… he got off!"

This is Don Nelson’s 14th year volunteering his time and boat to make a fellow veteran’s day.

"It’s great. They’ll sit there for a long time and you don’t know if they’re having fun or not then they’ll get that fish on and you get a smile from ear to ear and it’s just great to see."

Although no fish were caught on "The Office," other boats were successful, and there was plenty of fish to go around at the fish fry after wards.
