This is getting very ugly, very quickly. We are going to have highly connected people in prison I fear (I hope?). Veterans have a civic responsibility to stay informed about the workings of their government.

Today’s New York Times reports that Vice Pres. Dick Cheney ordered the CIA to conceal at least one surveillance program on American citizens within the U.S. from legally responsible oversight committees in Congress. The article is here: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/12/us/politics/12intel.html?th&emc=th .

Here is a brief synopsis of the story from the Reuters News Service as reported on AOL this morning: http://news.aol.com/article/vice-president-told-cia-to-withhold/567347?icid=main|htmlws-main|dl1|link4|http%3A%2F%2Fnews.aol.com%2Farticle%2Fvice-president-told-cia-to-withhold%2F567347 .

And here is an article from today’s Washington Post explaining why the Attorney General is leaning toward appointing a Special Prosecutor to investigate CIA torture of terrorism suspects in spite of resistance from the Obama Administration.  The story is here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/11/AR2009071102787.html?hpid=topnews .
