This morning’s New York Times is running an article outlining the new book just published by Seth G. Jones, a political scientist for the Rand Corporation called "In the Graveyard of Empires". His basic premise is that virtually all great empires engaged in western Asia have entered Afghanistan since the time of Alexander the Great. No one has come out intact.
