IS BRITAIN’S "WE ARE WATCHING YOU" SURVEILLANCE COMING TO THE U.S.?
THE BIOMETRIC ETHICS NIGHTMARE

Walk down a street anywhere in Britain and you are being filmed. Drive down any road and your face is being biometrically "tagged" while your driving record, tax and even child support records are being accessed. Next time you are being pulled over by the police, it could be to save you money on your car insurance.
Cameras that read your license number or that can identify your face, even through a dirty windshield, track your movements and computer programs predict your every move. Where our "Greatest Police Chases" reality TV involves armed robbers fleeing through traffic, the British version features police laying in wait for carefully chosen suspects.
Computers predict the road. Computers predict the time. Police access to databases always provides probable cause even when the old "no seatbelt" ploy doesn’t work.
Counter-terrorism technology and right wing courts, just like those in the US that have done so much to give us "law and order" allow police in Britain to stop and search anyone anytime and find any citizen.
This is only the beginning. Technology is in the pipeline that makes the most draconian societies of science fiction a shadow of what is possible. Americans obsessed with keeping their guns and preventing flag burning may have been the authors of their own doom.
Few understand what is possible with science. Most people have heard of biometrics but few know what can be seen, smelled or heard with technology available now. "Tagging" allows cars or people to be followed, lost, regained and tracked anywhere and everywhere. The function of tagging has gone generations beyond anyone’s worst fears.
Airports in many countries can pick up a rise in body temperature. Now it can be done blocks away or more. Sensors can diagnose, not only any illness, but any substance you have come in contact with, be it Sarin gas or laundry detergent.
There is always a smiley face we can put on anything. Let’s say you walk to work. Now the government can, if they so desire, sell your route to Lexus Nexus or a similar database marketer. They could sell the info to your satellite/cable provider. You could get your TV advertising custom tailored for businesses you walk or drive past only. Think of the efficiency!
Why worry about guns. Magnetometers can tell you what keys you are carrying much less the caliber of gun in your pocket. Maybe molecular sensors can suggest a better quality gun oil.
Picture yourself heading out for that morning coffee. See that guy standing by the door? He is there to remind you to pay your student loans.
Years ago we developed technology that would turn on a mobile phone, track the user and even record everything said nearby. The same equipment can change any text message in or out and reroute a call. This is equipment you can now buy over the internet, equipment used in by British tabloids (owned by Fox News/WSJ) to gather dirt.
What makes this technology so dangerous? Simple. We have 5 supreme court justices that allow police or big business do do anything they want. These right wing mental midgets, while talking "conservative" have been building a police state through destroying our consitutional rights.
When we started trading "security" for freedom we failed to look at what we had to lose. The government doesn’t need a camera in your bedroom when they can see through your walls.
Maybe it won’t happen here. Maybe our brave and stalwart NRA and Resist.com "freedom lovers" who helped put us where we are will wake up in time.
Right now, I don’t see anyone speaking out on these issues. When millions of phones were tapped illegally, nothing was said. When the Department of Justice was used as a political hit squad nothing was said. When the CIA became finally became a full time lie factory nothing was said.
Will anything be said and will anyone be left to listen?
