Pakistan Alters U.S. Harpoon Missile So As To Strike India – N.Y. Times

In today’s New York Times there is an article outlining a secret Pakistani missile test this past June that went unannounced until now. American intelligence believes that the Pakistanis illegally took an American naval ship to ship missile called the Harpoon and altered it to strke at India in a surface to suface scenario that is illegal and was not the intended use of the missile when the U.S. sold it to the Pakistanis.  This, more than anything else, illustrates the danger that the Amerian military industrial complex poses to all of us.  Once the lion is out of the cage, it eats whomever it wishes to eat.

The Pakistanis could not care less apparently about hiding the Taliban in their mountainous provinces so that they can infiltrate Afghanistan and kill U.S. and other NATO troops.  They use that situation to buy American weapons to taunt India, an ancient enemy.  This is a common problem for us in the world.  We sell weapons for Country A to defend itself against Country B and they use it instead against Country C.  This happens all over the world now and endangers all of us in a ever widening circle of lies.

Weapons that we have sold to Israel to defend against attacks by Arab neighbors have been used illegally to launch attacks on Palestinians.  Even the Israelis do not deny that anymore.  In the sixties we sold weapons to the South African government that was used against the black citizenry of that nation to keep them from open revolution.  The weapons were supposed to be a defense against possible Soviet incursion.  For decades we sold shiploads of weapons to South American generalisimos who turned the weapons against their own people who would demonstrate in the capitol plaza demanding food or justice or an end to the genocide that the government was waging against the poor.  How foolish of them to want justice, eh?

The American military industrial complex had spent most of the twentieth century manufacturing weapons against a supposed threat from political rivals (Soviets, Chinese communists, N. Koreans, Islamists, etc.), sold them to "friends" of the USA and just made the world all that much more unstable.  In this sense, it is beyond a doubt true that we are our own worst enemies.  We make weapons, sell them to unstable governments who lie in order to get their hands on more modern weapons and then they turn those weapons on traditional enemies making the whole situation even more unstable.

Why do we continue to do this decade after decade, century after century?

Now wait until you see what happens….months from now we will be saying how democratic Pakistan is becoming due to our influence over there.  We always sing the same song and the song is always off key.  Are we stupid, are we liars or are we both of those things?
