VFW AND LEGION REMAIN SILENT ON HEALTH SCARE SCAM

By Gordon Duff STAFF WRITER

The gangsters and robber barons of the health care syndicate went after veterans in their attempt to prevent more Obama Administration oversite like today’s felony conviction of pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, fined billions for bribing doctors into writing expensive, useless and even dangerous prescriptions.

In a TV appearance where Michael Steele, GOP Chairman and defacto spokesman for the medical industry and Fox News’s Chris Wallace fabricated a story citing the Department of Veterans Affairs for creating programs to force veterans to commit suicide.  Wallace, using "cut and paste" quotes and spinning outrageous assumptions into "fair and balanced" fact with Steele cheering on, created a convincing and powerful investigative report on a federal program that never existed.

Defending veterans and the Department of Veterans Affairs was Paul Sullivan of Veterans for Common Sense, a watchdog group famed for uncovering VA corruption.  Other veterans groups, some whose aging members were terrified by the Fox News story have neither made any significant effort to inform their membership nor call the GOP and Fox News to account for this dangerous attack on the veterans health care system.

The wild and totally falsified claims made by Steele and Fox News are part of a pattern of deceptive reports intended to bring about an outcry against the government’s attempt to guarantee health care for the ever increasing millions of uninsured Americans who are victims of the current economic  collapse.

Why a poltiical party and news network with passive complicity from veterans organizations would perpetrate such a massive fraud meant to victimize thousands of aging veterans may seen surprising to some.  In truth, the ownership of Fox News, the leadership of the GOP and top lobbyists for mainstream veterans organizations and even the NRA share broad financial partnerships with insurance and drug companies and the powerful doctors unions.

More lobbying effort is expended by some veterans groups to limit insurance company co-pays for veterans health care than is spent on any other veteran issue including compensation processing breakdowns, underfunding of facilities or quality of care.

Protecting insurance company profits is the top issue for key veteran organization’s Washington based lobbyists.  Thus, when veterans are subjected to wild and unscrupulous attacks intended to victimize veterans and serve health industry interests, the silence is deafening.

Most veterans have never heard of Veterans for Common Sense, an organization that has taken a leadership position in key causes of veterans rights and health care. This is far from the only area where this group has been the only one to speak up for veterans.

Veterans facing important decisions involving living wills and "end of life" care decisions or are at risk for suicide are encouraged to contact Veterans Affairs with full confidence they will receive honest, decent and responsible advice and care.

Veterans need to be assured that news stories stating that hospice care is in any way related to euthenasia or that nursing organizations are supporting "death panels" are no more credible than other stories from Fox News.

gduffMembers of veterans organizations which have failed to take an aggressive stance against this bizarre and dangerous concoction are encouraged to contact their post commanders and service representatives and request a full accounting.
