In today’s New York Times we have a treasure chest of articles outlining why we frankly have screwed up big time in the wars in western Asia that we should not have been engaged in the first place.  First up in our daily lineup of American craziness in the Middle East is an article about troops blogging and Pentagon attempts at controlling them.  The article, Pentagon Keeps Wary Watch as Troops Blog is a lead in to other articles just as disturbing.

U.S. In Delicate Spot As Fraud Claims Mount is an article outlining American embarrasment at the election that our boy Karzai apparently just stole from the Afghan people.  We can really pick the winners, can’t we?  How do you feel about this?  Are we spreading democracy in west Asia or are we just dragging Chicago over there for them to emulate?  How about this one? Seized Times Reporter Freed In Afghan Raid That Kills Aide tells us that a N Y Times reporter was kidnapped by the Taliban over the weekend and British Commandos just freed him at the cost of one commando and the reporters interpreter.  No one knows how many Taliban were killed.  Death and more death everywhere.  Let me ask a question.  Why?

Here is a story that will warm the cockles of your heart.  We only have a little over 10,000 nuclear warheads and we want to reduce them.  Too much money to keep them active.  So Putin and Obama want to reduce nuclear weapons costs by negotiating a drawdown.  The article is here . I don’t know what to think…if we had done this over twenty five years ago we could have sent every American kid to college for free.  We chose not to do that then but we will do it now.  Better late than never I suppose?
