Misdirected Anger and Confusion Everywhere – What Should Veterans Do?

Today’s New York Times is a cornucopia of angst, anger, fear and horror throughout the world. The American economy, American troops or the effects on American veterans are often smack dab in the middle of this confusion, even if this is not obvious. That is because your money is financing this craziness and therefore unavailable to meet the needs of veterans.  Mountains of money and the focus of Americans has been misdirected and because of that , the needs of veterans suffer.

First up we have an Op-Ed piece from the New York Times on the misdirected anger of the working class American involved in the Tea Party movement. This is going to really piss you off. Wait to read the numbers involved. Here is the story .  Tea party – schllee smartie!  What nonsense this all is!

Next up for the consideration of the American veteran is our man in Afghanistan, President Karzai. Europe has had monitors in Afghanistan who were at the polling places three weeks ago during the election. The European Union has now come out officially and stated that one third of his votes are fradulent. He stole the election. This is democracy?  This is well spent American money? Americans died for this?  The story is here.  You are going to be sick.

But it just gets better.  Your money is being wasted in other places too.  How long did you say you are waiting now to get in to see a doctor at the local V.A. hospital?  That is what I thought you said!

You are going to wait longer because we are still screwing around wasting the money you need to see change.

We have the young and newly elected President from Hawaii-Indonesia-Illinois-D.C. who now has decided to give us a way to rate American efforts in Afghanistan so that we can judge whether or not we need or want to stay there and to continue to flush our money and our political capital down the toilet.  That article is here.

Senator Webb, a former Republican Secretary of the Navy and Viet Nam veteran and the present senior  Democratic Senator from Virginia has a quote about the President’s attempts.

"It’s really important that they have a clearly articulated, understandable policy that has an endpoint in military terms that everyone can understand. I don’t think they’re there yet.”

Yeah, I don’t think so either.

Senator Webb, I live in Alexandria and I am your constituent.  If you are reading this article, just get us out of that desolate country and bring our young Servicemen and women home.  We can use the resources here, okay?  We don’t need any markers to judge this.  We have already judged our efforts to be a failure. We need the resources here.  We have 130,000 homeless veterans each evening sleeping on the street in the U.S.  We need the money here. Now.  What do you say? Can you do something here Senator?  Can we have some sanity now please?  We need that money here.

I believe that Webb’s statement was the understatement of the year.  We are wasting the lives of our young Americans in uniform on a corrupt government led by a tribal chieftan in democratic clothing in a stone age culture that wants to be "democratized" about as much as Gordon Duff wants a lobotomy.  We are wasting our time, energy, money and human capital when we need it desperately here.  Enough already Mr. President, bring them home!

Now here is something Republicans should pay attention to and take action upon.

Yesterday, in New York State’s primary election Tuesday, only roughly 11% of all registered Democrats in New York State turned up at the polls to vote.  In a state where politics is always taken very seriously because money appears to be allocated directly to communities based on how their leadership can garner votes for statewide and national elections and political bosses with national reach, about one in ten registered Democrats voted.

This is about as close as a Democrat can get to  "flipping the bird" to local and state wide party leadership.  As a Democrat myself active in Northern Virginia politics, I have to admit, this is a stunning development so soon after getting our man into the White House.  This speaks volumes about American disgust with the political system.

And that is coming from somebody on the Left (me) speaking about the Democratic Party.  American disgust with "government" is running deep and it crosses party lines.  Veterans could very well suffer the fallout.  If New York Democrats are not even interested in voting in their own primary, how do New York State veterans have a chance to get their needs met fairly in any situation that must be decided by voters?  They do not.  This situation is ripe for political manipulation by a well financed but aggressive anti-veteran lobby if it wished to take advantage of voter burn out.

I have a question to ask the veterans of New York State; what benefits do you recieve from the State of New York Department of Veterans Affairs?  You had better check.  They could be gone soon.

In the last article I want to mention, the State Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo, has uncovered substantial, historical, long standing collusion between the upper ranks of the New York State Police and criminal elements within the wealthy, politically connected and powerful in New York State.  In short, they are covering up criminal activity of the landed gentry in the Empire State on a routine basis and frankly, this has been known since I was a very little boy.  I am 56.  The story is here.

How do New York State veterans feel about "government" now?  Do you feel secure?  I did not think so. Your feelings are almost certainly universally shared by other American veterans.

One day in the New York Times.  Government is largely broken at virtually every level.  Just about anyone can see that.  Now, what can veterans do about it?  One thing.  Demand accountability. That means accountability from everybody involved in our issues.  Essentially it comes down to this: money.

We need lots of it, all the time, by the truckloads every day.  We cannot get that money or that political focus that we need if it is all tied up in corrupt government, either ours or someone else’s.  In short, we constantly get put to the side because we do not demand that this not happen.  We are not aggressive enough to demand our share of the pie.  And the funny hat veterans organizations are allied with power and money….not us….they are not much help.

New York State is undoubtedly no different than any other place in the country relative to veterans’ needs being put aside because other issues take the forefront.  That is fine, as long as the veterans in the state are aggressive and continuous in demanding that their needs be met.  But I see very little evidence of that, either in that state or any other state.  We seem to be unconscious as a group.  In my opinion that is why our needs go mostly unmet decade after decade.
