The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund has received its largest individual donation ever–The Heisley Family Foundation has pledged $2.5 million to build the Education Center at The Wall. This is also the largest donation received for the Education Center from an individual or family foundation.
The Heisley family of Chicago has several personal connections to the Vietnam War, including an uncle, Joseph Heisley, who served in Vietnam, and a strong friendship between family patriarch Michael Heisley and Army Capt. Rocky Versace, who was listed as a prisoner of war in 1963 and awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously.
